Happy for him, I think we all always thought he was talented. He’s only playing 2 more min/game this year than last, though he’s started 11/18 games so far.

i guess my point is…what happened here? We could clearly have benefitted from him staying.

I mean: I think I know what happened. But I think it could’ve gone differently.

So UNC has climbed all the way up to #3 in the latest polls. Remember when UNC fans wanted a new coach? UK is #6, after their roster was in shambles and their fans were howling last spring. Kansas and Duke are both in the top 15 even though we got Mgbako instead of them.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could be like them, and things could quickly get better and work themselves out? Just once?
We cannot have good things it seems. We are still being punished for text messages!

Of note:  He's been shooting REALLY well in the last 8 games:  56 of 90 from the field (62%), 12 of 23 from three (52%), 33 of 34 from the line (97%), 157 points, 19.6 ppg.  And in that span....Missouri is 1-7 with their only win being against Central Arkansas and five of the seven losses were at home.

Statistically, it looks his scoring revival has come from developing a more rounded game -- getting many more shots in the mid range and at the rim. He was the shooter that IU envisioned.  That said, it also looks like he's not bringing anything but shooting -- getting under 2 rebounds and about 1 assist.

Of interest:  Sean East, high school team mate of Romeo Langford, has been an even better shooter for Missouri than Bates and is a better all around player....shooting 52/47/80, averaging 15.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and leads the team in steals.

Mizzou also has a player shooting 40% from three on 100 attempts.  And yet the Tigers are really, really bad -- 8-10 and a Pom rating worse than any team in the Big Ten, including Penn State.  Amazing that a team with a threesome of Bates, East, and Honor who have combined for 84 of 192 from three (44%) could still only shoot 33% from three as a team.  Seems like everyone has a green light to shoot from three no matter how bad they are.

Tamar's Off Rating this year: 132.6 damn!

Tamar's Def Rating: 115.5

East being good at Mizzou for a couple years has been vindicating. I (and others) thought he’d be a high-major caliber player eventually way back when he was at New Albany.

As for Bates, yeah, it’s just scoring, and he still appears “light in the butt,” as Woody says. So he’s probably fine guarding 1s but not burlier players even at the 2. And you’re right, it would be nice to see some other contributions. Especially as a shooter of that caliber, the next step is making plays for others.

In addition to the issues you mention, Mizzou rebounds very poorly and is badly outscored at the line. They don’t get there often, their opponents do, and they’ve been unlucky with good opponent Ft%.

I still like Coach Gates, but I wonder if he’d be well served with a dedicated defensive coordinator in one assistant spot, a la Yaklich for Beilein (if I mention that a lot, it’s because more coaches should do it with their weaker side of the ball!)

Strong A.. comeback for the piece of crap

A&M-CC just giving the ball to win the game lol.    Had the ball up 1 and just threw the ball away for no reason.    Mcneese on the line down 1 with 7 sec to go

I thought he got hacked on the arm, the ref didn't call it then had to save it before travelling or touching the sideline.

Missed both lol
