So what do you guys think, grab Maten and Cunningham and go to war next year?

Recommended Posts

I think this is where Crean needs to showcase his coaching ability (if he has any). Not the most talented bunch he's had here, but enough to be competitive. And as for cunningham's shooting, I think he's like sheehey in that he can knock down open 3's, but mostly drives to the lane.

And I like our chances to get both of them. Cunninham's other best offer is Bradley, and he'll get good PT at Indiana, so why wouldn't he want to play for the bigger school? And Maten, I don't know his other offers, but I doubt they're big name schools.

I'm torn. I feel like we need more experienced players and would betraying to go the JUCO route or finding more 5th year guys. Let's face it, it's a make or break year for Crean. Does he really want to go into a season like that dependent on lower ranked freshmen?

So we get these two guys and we still have a scholarship left to go grab a JUCO or 5th year transfer.

And what do you guys think about Cunningham's shooting ability?

All I know is, I NEVER want shooting to be a problem again ;)

I dont understand some of you people on here, by talking about kids, then you say lets get him or him. At this point CTC cant recruit a two legged pig to play. CTC is dead on the recruiting trail. Nobody wants to play for him.

I respect your comment, but CTC really didnt have anything to do with James Blackmon. If i remember correctly when James announced on ESPN, he said he wanted to play where HIS heart was-at Indiana. So he was doomed to come to IU reguardless of what CTC wanted. Look at the ones CTC has let get away-Trey Lyles, Jaquan Lyle, Trevon Bluiett, and others. Thanks Welder.

Lyles and Lyle aren't the type of person a lot of people (myself included) want at IU. Caliber of player, absolutely, so I see what you're saying there, but I didn't want either one of them. Bluiett would've been nice.

As true as that might be about Lyle and Lyles, Crean did go after them hard. At one point he wanted both of them badly. Crean lost them. It might very well may be that Crean doesn't really care about not wanting that type of person at IU, but it is a convenient excuse when he loses out on some recruits or can't get on the same page with a current player and decides to cut them loose.

I think he was blinded by the talent that they both have. As moral as he might like to come off as, we all know he'd rather win than have "good guys" on the team. I'm just really glad he missed on them for whatever reason. Using the "well, we didn't want him anyways" excuse makes him look dumb, and he definitely used it.

Then we still have unbalanced classes. Those guys are not difference makers. So why waste a scholarship on them for 4 years. Or we Crean them and we are still young an wasted scholarships on young kids never to see them as upperclassmen. Besides Crean can't afford to take projects. He is in a win now situation with his job. If he fails next year he is out and we will have 1 scholarship available for the new coach. Again no class balance.

When Lyle reopened his commitment it was well known that Crean did not offer him a scholarship.

It's also ridiculous to say Crean had little to do with JBJ recommitting as someone is saying above. C'mon now you cannot honestly think that. If he says he's going where his heart is at IU that has everything to do with Crean. Right now IU is Crean and Crean is IU when it comes to recruits in statements like this. Critique Crean all you want but don't make up things just I fit your narrative.

He isn't officially released from his scholarship until the end of this semester. I don't know if that affects the timing of his decision, but it might.

Read the board, friend!

We have a thread on Trevor Thompson, complete with tweets, articles, reviews, and the outreach meeting with Coach Crean.
