Academic Fraud

Recommended Posts

I looked around in an effort not to repost a topic/article on academic fraud. Bloomberg Business had a huge article on late Feb. concerning U of N. Carolina and academic fraud.

What I didn't reallze is how wide spread this must be. In conjunction with rent-a-players also known as "one and dones" I'm beginning to realize why so many programs stink or are inconsistent and others are consistently churning out winning seasons and not hanging on to players. And the good teams loaded with upperclassmen may be similar to UNC without a whistleblower.

Here's the article >> In Fake Classes Scandal, UNC Fails Its Athletes—and Whistle-Blower

If you take the time to read the article I'd like to see some constructive discussion concerning this and how it relates to recruiting, player payments, or even player unionization. I've also see some talk concerning players as interns. What's so troubling is these players can't read or write and are expected to "go to class" and "study" and maybe even graduate.

The NCAA is a mess, particularly in football and basketball. I'm a big IU BB fan dating back to when many here weren't born. I'd like to watch real student athletes but money has really grown to a point where the crime will continue uninterrupted. IMHO.

Players get paid.  Not only with free college, fame and exposure, but I'm 37 and still have multiple years of student loan payments left.  These payments equal a car payment every month.  I'd love to be rid of them.  Instead, I had to pay for college.

These athletes who get a full ride have no idea of the impact of it.  Heck, I'm way jealous of people whose parents paid for their college.  Student loans are an anchor.

These lucky scholarship athletes need to understand reality

Sorry, rant over.   :thankyou:

I agree with Josh about the scholarship deal completely. I just think that the players should be able to benefit from their likeness.

The UNC Rosa Parks paper (Idk if it was in the article above or not) was actually hilarious. Pretty sad, but hilarious at the same time.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere. But, we all know about all of the academic stuff with UNC, here is a brief article with an attached picture of a paper supposedly written by an athlete that received an A-. It is pretty horribly written.
