Special edition B1G Tourney uniforms

Recommended Posts

Put pink ribbons in the kids hair for all I care. The name of the game is national championships not who still has the same jerseys every year. Everyone keeps talking about tradition but IU's greatest tradition is winning not what they're wearing. So hypothetically if someone told you we could keep the same jerseys forever and never hang another banner would you be ok with that? What if they said we get new jerseys and win within 5 years? I'm not saying new jerseys have any real effect it was just hypothetically. I know someone will reply without a valid argument and twist my words that I said we'll only win if we switch jerseys. That's in fact not what I said. I personally don't care either way, they're just jerseys. As long as Indiana is the name on the front nothing else matters. People complain about my distaste of Tom Crean but get bent out of shape over jerseys? Really? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I don't see why us having outdated uniforms is such a big deal to some fans, I guess the "next shiny thing" syndrome applies to more than just recruits.  Those uniforms are a part of Indiana basketball now, just like the candy stripes and the banners.  The Yankees don't change their pinstripes and Alabama doesn't change their helmets, why does IU need to change their uniforms?  Those outdated uniforms didn't keep us from getting Zeller or Oladipo or Sheehey or Yogi or Vonleh or Blackmon or...

Recruiting is the life blood of a program and the results say our uniforms aren't hurting us, and new uniforms won't make the players play better so it'd just be change for the sake of change.    An alternate from time to time, sure, but a permanent change isn't necessary and really has no benefit.

Why is it such a big deal with you to change the unis? Shouldn't we go back to the unis they wore for the first IU team if change is so bad? I can't remember where I found those the last time the uniform debate came up but they were pretty slick. If the players don't mind wearing outdated unis those should be just fine.

You do know that RMK started the candy stripe pants thing? Those will have to go too when we get really traditional.

Let's not forget that Assembly Hall was a big change 42 years ago...let's go back to the Cracker Jack box type of gym that Indiana High schools played in back in the 1930's too...

I guess we shouldn't recruit players with visible tattoos either. They may take away from our traditional style. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

that's half of the damn team right now it seems!

Butler has done fine with their field house for almost 90 years.

Seats 11,043. Would you want IU to have that seating capacity? Not sure what the old IU gyms would seat but I'm sure it was much less than 17,000.

Plus, there is NO comparison between the fanbases of IU and Butler. That's even counting the people around the country that hopped on the bandwagon after their 2 great seasons.

Were you ever an athlete? When you thought you looked good in your gear you were more excited and pumped up. That's a fact.

Actually that is not a Fact....

Yes I was an athlete. I still am an athlete....

It doesn't matter if I recall my High School Football days, my little league baseball days, or the countless Softball, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Football leagues that I play in now.... If I was ever to get pumped up to play because I thought I looked good in my gear that would be a HUGE problem.... probably should start participating in beauty contests instead of sporting events....

I guess it is just an opinion and obviously everybody has one on 1 side or the other (and some in the middle).... I was just stating mine, that this is just the money hungry ploy and most likely an opening for permanent change and names on the back... I am all for updates with the times as far as the longer shorts, I understand the Candy Stripes don't go back to Branch... Traditions have to start somewhere and have to end sometime... they all do.... I am just not ready to see some of them go yet

Hinkle Fieldhouse is a damn fine basketball establishment, but it ain't fit to house Hoosier basketball...

I watched Damon Bailey break the all time scoring record at Seymour's gym...nobody loves the nostalgia of those old gyms more than I do...but Indiana University sets the trends in this state when it comes to basketball, and if they want to sport trendy uniforms for the B1G tournament, then...by God, I'm gonna get in line and probably buy one on Amazon Prime and get one shipped to my house in 2 days...

2 freaking days! it's 2014, and I'm gonna get a jersey shipped to my house in 2 days...

Hinkle is pretty rough. I go to a few games there each year (wife's a BU alum), and there's a reason they're doing the renovation they're about to start. It's one thing to have an old arena with character, but Hinkle needs A LOT of work. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't think they should replace it or anything, but it's in rough shape right now.

And NOLA, I guess I would question what you meant when you said they've done fine with HInkle. It's not like they've been a national power for 90 years with it.

This conversation has certainly strayed a bit.

I might have to take out a loan for the jersey.
