Blind Résumés

Recommended Posts

Got a snow day and I was bored, so I put together these four tournament résumés. Two are in, two are out. Which would you choose?

Honestly depends on how much you value SOS and RPI, because that would put Team B way behind the others. But then you also have to look at how much you want to value record against RPI Top 25 because Team B kills in that department.

It's not too blind if you know Indiana's record. Why is our SOS so poor? Obviously out of conference was a parade of cupcakes but the conference has been tough. I expect that to improve through our last two games and the BTT. What we really need is at least one win vs Nebraska/Michigan and a couple wins in the conference tournament.

From your list...

A is 100% in.

I know Indiana is B, but I honestly value those wins more than the SOS number. Clearly their schedule is harder, but they aren't winning those games so who cares?

I think Indiana has 4 ways to get in.

1: Beat Neb, Beat Mich, Win 1 game in BTT. (Play second game CLOSE)

2. Beat Neb, Lose to Mich, Win 2-3 Games in BTT

3. Lose to Neb, Beat Mich, Win 2-3 Games in BTT

4. Lose to Neb, Lose to Mich, Gotta win BTT.

What do you think?

Edit: On a buzzer beater. 2nd Edit: From the opposite free throw line.

I honestly think, no matter what, we need to win 2-3 games in the BTT (more likely 3). Our RPI and SOS are a problem, which is one reason why we need as many wins as possible.

Guess we will see this year how much beating better teams is worth to the tournament committee or having a tougher schedule you don't win the games.  If we get to 19 wins, I would hope we are in because of the teams we have beat.  Unfortunately, beating Nebraska will be a double edge sword.  We beat them, and we lessen them.  It doesn't do what it should to our RPI.  We don't hold an edge on them since we split at home.  So, we gain very little.  That said, we have a lot to lose if we lose that game.  UM on the road does not look good for us.  We have not been a good road team.  That will probably hold weight in our chances.  I am just not a fan of saying our schedule sucked so we should be out.  Those other teams did have better schedules, but didn't win any of those games.  We beat better teams, and lost to worse teams than them.  Depends on how much stock is put into better wins.

Indiana (Team B, but everyone knew that) has the best record vs RPI top 50 of those teams, but the worst against RPI top 150. The team shot itself in the foot, yet can somehow still save itself. There's a lot of work to do and we need these next two games. It can be done, but it's still a long shot.

You guys are too educated for it to be a completely blind résumé, but A is Tennessee, C is Minnesota (I don't agree with them being in), and D is Nebraska.

Tourney is built on upsets, TV Ratings and name recognition. We can argue all day long if that is true or not, but when it comes down to the stretch, if it's IU and School X battling for that last at large spot, Indiana's resume with those wins will allow the committee to put the Hoosiers in over other teams with better records, RPI, SOS. IU has a very good shot at playing in the play in games this year. Can't believe I'm about to say this... I actually hope we play in the Play in Game if we make the tournament. A win there could spark a fire to propel this team forward.

Indiana is a better team than their record. We have a couple mind blowing losses that don't fit this teams build and make up.

It's easy to look at what could have been but I like that we have grown a little the last week. I was proud to see this team close out two tough teams. We have the opportunity, we just have to make the most if it.

Win and we're in. Lose and we're out.
