Help Out a Future Hoosier (Please?)

Recommended Posts

I just found out that I was admitted into IU for next Fall. I'm a transfer student and I'll be entering my 3rd year, but I'll probably be considered a Sophomore. My current plan is to enter the Sports Broadcasting program and focus on sports information. I know quite a bit about Bloomington and know my way around. I go there a lot and my mom went to IU, but I'm still looking for all the info I can get. Since I've gathered that many posters are either graduates or students, I figured this would be a good place to get some hints/tips on going to school there. Anything you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

This is all you need to know.

1. Kilroys

2. Sports

3. Nicks

4. Dunkirk

5. Bluebird

Brothers sucks, Jakes sucks, Upstairs is decent, The Vid sucks

For coeds:

Pi Phi

Alpha Phi

Tri Delt

Zeta

The strip club (Nightmoves) sucks. Only go if you're blacked out.

Don't go into the football games. The fields are a magical place. Stay there as long as you can.

Pregame before every basketball game, HARD.

Yogis has good food and good brew on tap; chill place.

Live close to campus. Out by college mall sucks, the villas suck (pretty much anywhere north of 17th street sucks).

$2 Tuesdays at Kilroys is pretty much the best night to go out. $3 Thursday is good too. Oh and Monday $1 wells at Kilroys too. Just go to Kilroys a ton.

Kilroys back patio is heaven when it gets warm. Take full advantage of that. Also go to every breakfast club before games. Get a good base of food in and get hammered before every game for cheap.

Roys gives out tee shirts on thursdays for 3 bucks. I probably own 100. Get those.

Thats about all I've got. Follow those guidelines and you'll have an absolute blast.

Yes, typing this out made me depressed that I'm still not there.

That will take quite a bit of frame. That's almost scroll worthy.

First off, congrats on getting admitted! Best advise I can give is live every day like it's your last down there. The time will absolutely fly by and you won't want to look back and say "damn, wish I did that." If you know the campus and area well already than that's the biggest battle. Do you have any idea where you are going to live?

I know the town pretty well, but other than the stadium and The Hall, I haven't been on campus at all. And I'm not sure where I'm going to live yet. That's the next step in the process.

Dorm or off campus? Mixed feelings? Honestly as a Sophomore, and new to campus, Wilkie can be a great option for you to live and especially meet a bunch of other non freshman. Wilkie is near your sports buildings I believe as well.

I never lived in Wilkie, but I did have some friends Senior year that all met at Wilkie in their sophomore year (first year at IU) and became good friends and got a house together junior and senior year. I guess living situation is affected a lot by if you know a lot of people on campus already or not.

I know some people, but my plan is to live off-campus. Haven't done much looking for places yet.

Current student down here. Im also majoring in Sport Broadcasting and love it. I know it's too late but for any future Hoosiers.... GO GREEK. You'll never regret it. I promise. But the bars are sick. Especially Sports. Girls are hot as shit. This school knows how to party....but also handle their academics. How does it get much better? IU is the best college in the nation. Love my Hoosiers!!!!!! I can tell you Sahara Mart is a hidden gem for beer- they have tons of micro and imports. Also, down Walnut (down by Chocolate Moose), there is a Big Red Outlet (think it's Big Red)- great prices. Mother Bears is the pinnacle of campus pizza but pricey for students. Pizza X can save your life (and a handy collection of keg cups). Shops in Bloomington change often, so look around. Used to "find" intellectual type girls at the Ryder Film Series. Bloomingfoods is a cool place to get healthy stuff to detox. Stay away from Swing In Pizza (how has that place survived?). Between campus and city buses, it's pretty easy to get around. Make sure you take advantage of the area by the planetarium (?) by the Bursar/registrar offices (off of Indiana)- nice paths and beautiful in the fall. There is so much to appreciate in Bloomington! I'm sure that, if you attend any of the games, some of us would love to stop and say hi (to any members, for that matter).

Mother Bear's is worth the price. I go there every time I get the chance. Thanks for the other info too.

Fortunately for you, the School of Public Health(its still HPER to me) and the Telecom building are next to each other in the center of campus; the Arboretum just north and the IMU just south. Bad news, you're probably gonna have a lot of early classes since a good number of athletes major in sport communication/broadcast.

I agree with most of what Zion mentioned, in my opinion Yogi's is the best place to watch non-IU sporting events(NFL, World Series, etc.).

And if you're not drunk during Little 5 week (which is actually 10 days long), then you're not doing it right.

Ah that news isn't all bad. I don't mind having early classes really. Like getting my day over with. Thanks for the building info though. Glad I won't have to go too far. I think I'll be done with my gen eds when I get there, so I'll probably be living in those buildings you mentioned. I can't wait for Little 5 week.
