Commish: One and Done Needs to Go

Recommended Posts

"So even if it's not terrible for the NBA right now, at least talking to a lot of my college coaching friends and college (athletic director) friends, their view is (that) one and done is a disaster. I think this is one of these issues that the larger basketball community needs to come together and address, not just the NBA owners and our players. Youth basketball and college basketball should have a seat at the table as well."

Apologies if in the wrong forum. Seems potentially relevant to IU and is not another Crean thread.

This minimum age idea is not good.

Let the players that are good enough or think that they are good enough go straight to the NBA and make them live with their decisions, just like real life.  Those kids don't want to be in college and odds are, we don't want them in the game either.  This opens scholarships for kids that actually want to or need to go to college.

Instutite the MLB rule.  It should produce a much better game as the game would start to see more upperclassmen.

That quote is taken a little out of context because he is in favor of basically a two-and-done rule, which is even worse.

Not out of context at all. He does want to get rid of the one and done rule. I didn't state what he wants to replace it with.

Right, and stating what he wants to replace it with provides context.

Not spelling it out for you is not out of context. If you have been following what Silver and Stern before him having been saying the last few years, you would have already known they want to increase the age limit.

Why cant they do it like baseball? Either you come out right after High School or its 3 years after completion of high school?

Idk if any of you are watching gameday but john calipari was spot on in my opinion on the one and done rule. He's saying that if you are going to get rid of of the one done rule make it 2 years and take a year off of the rookie contract. He went on to say that after 2 years a player is 1 or 2 years away from completing a degree should they finish school while in the league. I know there are plenty of people that hate coach cal but he was making some great points. He also said something about a loan in year 2 but I don't rememeber.
