Penn State @ IU Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

It's my birthday. This was the worst game in the history of my 19 years as an IU fan. This team lost all of my respect.

I am taking a volunteered leave of absence from this site for the next couple of days. Trust me, you don't want to put up with me. I'm that angry.

You guys still rock. I plan on being back in a few days.

Peace out from the angry birthday boy.

Tonight in his post game presser Crean said something along the lines of "We have 5th year senior that has to play better, and a 4th year senior that has to play better". Now I didn't listen to the whole thing, but, if this is what he attributes this loss to, I don't even know what to say.

I've always thought of crean as a great used car salesman. Idk why but he just strikes me as such.

BlueDevil,

You're right, The Ville was overall #1 last year.  My error on that detail.  However, the point still stands that last year's team underacheived as a #1 seed, B1G Champion, and with 2 of the first 4 players taken in the NBA draft.

The consensus of opinion here seems to be that Crean is at best a mediocre coach.  I think that is pretty much on the mark.

All six of his teams have generally underachieved.  The best example was last year when as the overall #1 seed they couldn't get past the Sweet Sixteen -- despite having 2 of the top four NBA draft choices.  Think what Bo Ryan would have done with that talent.

Sorry to nitpick, because I agree with most of your post. The only thing I disagree with is the statement about all 6 of his teams underachieving. The 2011-2012 team by all accounts overachieved, given what preseason expectations were. They were expected to be a bubble team, they made the tournament easily, and even were a higher seed. Whether that comes down to Crean as a coach, think at least some of it has to, or the talent of the team, is up to debate.

Also, they were not the overall #1 seed last year.  Had they been, we might have been talking final four.  Nope, they blew that chance in the conference tournament.

I see now, this has been addressed.  My apologies.

IU lost to Butler last year on my Birthday, and ND this year on it. I know the feeling.

I think you tagged the wrong guy but I totally agree with you man I thought they should have won it all the talent was there. They just ran into a terrible matchup in the sweet 16 that crean should have had them better prepared for.

CTC brought the program back from the depths! I will always feel that way and be thankful. I am speechless after 2nights game. We will never be a legitimate team until 1.we learn how to play a half court offense, 2. We learn how to feed the post to our best player and CTC learns how to be a better in game Coach and the coaching staff that can make adjustments that work.<br /><br /><br />

Boy, Cincy, you're not asking for much, are you <LOL>!

I saw Dopirak tweet both of those quotes and I laughed out loud to myself. Pathetic.

This is the point guys, we like him, he's a nice guy, the kids like him, but he can't coach during a game. We lost tonight, at Nebraska, Illinois, NW, because of Tom Cream not our players.   He subs 2nd and 3rd string players into Big Ten games for no reason. In addition, he continually messes up the flow of the game by subbing non-stop. Most coaches sub because they are resting, punishing, matching up or saving players. In addition, a coach might sub because we are way ahead or behind. However, Tom Cream subs as soon as we start to do good. The Big Ten is not a pay for play league or elementary school not everyone should get playing time. If you're good enough to start you should start and play 90% of the game. This is what everyone is talking about! It's the coach and it's never gonna change he has been doing this for years but we didn't notice because we were either losing big or winning big. Now that it's close, we lose!

I just watched a 7-minute or so clip of the postgame and I got even madder. He speaks about the game as if he was an analyst or a guy in the stands who had no control over changing or making adjustments to affect the outcome of the game. He just made reference to "not executing the gameplan" and then put his arms up like "Hey, I tried."

Nah but when we lost to Butler, I had a couple of friends over and I almost lost it with all of them there lol.

OT: I'm guessing you didn't catch the Pacers game? Because I wouldn't advise watching any replay of it, everyone had a pretty horrible night.
