Mitch McGary out indefinitely

I believe that McGary's post-tournament buzz would not necessarily have equaled his June draft spot. Cody certainly gained a lot of ground post-tourney, and McGary was already starting to have back troubles before this season. There's not a high likelihood he would have been a lottery pick.

There was a high possibility to be a first round pick, probably would have been guaranteed a first round pick from a few teams. That is what most kids want now a days, is a guarantee that they will have a contract immediately out of college. And for Mitch with his back problems this would have given him more freedom to rehab the injury, rather than having to be on the court and prove something, like he currently does. NBA scouts did like his potential, which means they would have been fine with drafting him in the first round and giving him a contract, letting him rehab, and see what he could do going forward. Whether he was a lottery pick is still up for debate, I still think he got way too much talk about it even being a possibility

Sucks for both McGary and Michigan.

 

Ive never been really high on McGary but still hate seeing injuries. It also looks like he'll be able to get a medical redshirt I believe.

Play in less than 30% of your teams games makes you eligible. Thought i saw he has only played 8,so he should qualify.

Just checked their stats Mitch has played in eight games and has started in four so yes he qualifies per the medical redshirt rules.

He was at an astronomically idiotic (if that makes sense) high spot in mock drafts. More or less based off of those couple of tournament games.

ya he gained so much hype off of a few good games. I think he was smart to stay, but an injury is unpredictable i feel for the guy

This is kind of why I was more surprised he came back last year.  Dude will be 22 this season.  He will make Evan Gordon and his 2 transfers look young by the time he is a senior.
