You know Creedence Clearwater Revival?  They sing about how they were "Born on the Bayou"....they're from Berkeley California.  I lost a lot of respect for them today.

I feel like they lied to me.  Born on the bayou?  Dude had never even been to the south when he wrote about growing up there.  It's like an autobiography that was based upon lies.

Or maybe I'm just a cranky old man.

Maybe he isn't talking about himself. Some people have a weird way of writing. Or, he could just be a total poser. I always thought they were a southern rock band until I researched them too.

Did you know that John Lennon was not the Walrus?  Billy Joel wasn't born or raised in Allentown?  Freddie Mercury didn't like Fat Bottom Girls?

Wait...was John Mellencamp really from a small town?

Billy Joel never lived in Allentown?  You might want to check that one.

And keep that poser Fogerty off my lawn.

Mr. Mellencamp was pretty much the textbook definition of juvenile delinquent- wanted to fight everyone.  Everybody knew him for his reputation and attitude long before his music (I live about 15 miles north of where he grew up (he's from Seymour, I live in Columbus).  He's about 20 years older, so I knew him from my dad.

Fogerty?  No worries- The Old Man is Down the Road (see what I did there ;) )

Billy Joel did not grow up in Allentown - he grew up in Levittown, on Long Island. In an interview with James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio, he compared Allentown with his hometown while he was growing up, noting the similarities. Joel stated that the original title was "Levittown," and the original lyrics seemed kind of bland, and he felt that they would possibly be considered boring to the listeners. Some of the original lyrics included lines like, "Well we're living here in Levittown. And there's really not much going down. I don't see much when I look around. The grass is green, the trees are brown. And we're living here in Levittown." So, during the time of the upcoming studio sessions for The Nylon Curtain, Billy took a trip to Pennsylvania. It was here that he came up with the idea for new lyrics. At that time, he originally had Bethlehem in mind, but people would suddenly get the impression that the song was religious. The confusion would come from the fact that the place where the birth of Christ was said to have happened was Bethlehem, Israel. It is worth noting that Bethlehem and Allentown are right next to each other. So, he started writing down some lyrics for what later became the song "Allentown." (songfacts.com)

Mellencamp doesn't get nearly enough play around here. Seriously, I never hear his stuff. It's an absolute crime.

He's got such a cool variety of styles.  My college roomate (at IU- Foster Martin 3!) was obsessed with him, so I got schooled in a lot of his earlier obscure stuff.  Big IU supporter too!

Yeah exactly. You see him at the big IUBB games and there's Mellencamp Pavilion, but I don't think I've even heard one of his songs at a basketball or football game of the 20ish I've been to. My dad's a big fan of his, so I got started pretty early on. Would love to see him live.

Billy never said he was born in Allentown, just that he was "living here in Allentown".  I thought I read once that he had lived there for a stretch, now I don't know what to think.  Oh well.

Ccr annoys me for some reason though.  They made their reputation off being a southern rock band, constantly singing about it.  To find out Fogerty was born and raised in Berkley...I'm disappointed.  Posers.

I've seen Mellencamp a bunch.  He used to play Assembly Hall every couple years, they were great shows.  I live in Florida now and he never makes his way down here.

In their defense if you read up on it they were completely open about how they weren't from the bayou. It's just a song.

Lol, I never know what to think!  Here's a random thought- why isn't there a music style known as Northern Rock?  Mellencamp played Little 5 at some point when I was there,..
