Finish top 4 in conference

Sweet 16 or better finish.

Blow out Purdue at Mackey.

I would agree with this and add just improvement and comfort from the freshman by the end of the year.  I think most on here would expect a run next year if Vonleh and Yogi are back.  We need them to grow.  I think they will.

National Championship

Big Ten Championship

Anything short of those isn't a success to me.

We are young. And there is plenty of room to grow. I think we all know neither of those will happen, so it's time to set your expectations a little lower. Such as:

Top 5 in B1G

NCAA Tourney appearance, followed by

NCAA Tourney run

We all need to realize that this team is talented, but very young and will have ups and downs throughout the season. Expectations can't be that high...

I don't expect what I said just I don't think not winning it all is a success. I'm an all or nothing/black or white kind of guy. To me it's winning it all or nothing. Could we have a good season? Yes and i think we will I just won't call it a success.

Let me start by saying - THIS IS NOT A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.   I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but at this point I think we are to young and inexperienced to win the whole thing.  That being said, my definition of a successful season will be less than a National Championship.  I don't think Indiana is quite there to the consistent National Championship contenders.  I hope we get there soon.

3 Things for Indiana's Season to be a successful season for me:

  1. Undefeated in Assembly Hall
  2. Top 4 finish in B1G, w/ B1G Tournament Semifinal Appearance.
  3. Sweet 16 for the third straight year.

If Indiana can accomplish these things, I will say we had a good year.  I also don't think this is out of reach by ANY means.  I think everything I listed there is 100% attainable for this Indiana team.  To accomplish this, they will have to work very hard and come together as a team.  I'm not selling this team short, I just feel like I wouldn't be upset with this season if we accomplished the above.

I can appreciate your logic, but I don't feel like you can be a Black & White kind of fan in College athletics.  There are way too many teams to compete with and way too many breaks your team needs to get to view success this way.  It's a little different in the NBA or NFL where you can have a group of players for a long period of time.  College sports teams are different EVERY season.  Not just one or two players, it's normally 25% turnover of experienced players being replaced with 25% inexperienced players.

Setting the bar low there, aren't you?  Making the tournament, at the minimum, should be expected pretty well every year now IMO.

1.  NCAA team, preferably making a Sweet 16 run.  I am saying this now and probably won't feel this way at the time, but with our youth I am not going to freak out if we lose in the second round, especially if we are something like a 6 seed and lose to a 3.  How great would a deep run be to set up next year?

2.  Top 5 B1G regular season.  I think top 4 is doable, but once again we're young.  Talented and young, but still young. (As a bonus I'd love to make it to Saturday of the B1G tournament.)

3.  This is not necessarily measurable, but I want us to be at a place where the consensus among the fans and experts is that we are a better team in March than we are now in October.  I want to be able to look at this team and see the improvement form game to game and month to month.
