We open the season with an 8-0 loss to FAU.  4 Hoosier pitchers gave up 8 hits and walked 3.  4 of the 8 were for extra bases.  We could only muster 3 singles.  Ella Troutt started and lasted 3.2 innings and charged with 3 earned runs and takes the loss.

Play 2 on Friday -

Please no complaints if softball has a rebuilding year after the three of the best seasons in program history where they made three straight NCAA Tournaments after just seven in first 50 yrs before that.

They lost a lot and are very young and could well have growing pains with only Avery Parker and Aly VanBrandt returning as major contributors.

Also, one game and Florida Atlantic has been elite the last two years.

Hopefully this goes well overall, but definitely could be a slight step back from what team has been recently.

Women get their first win of the new season 8-2 over Army.  Aubree Hooks, Brooke Mannon and Megan Gregory limited Army to 3 hits and issued a total of 4 walks.  Hoosiers pounded out 9 hits, 4 of which were for extra bases including HRs from Avery Parker and Josie Bird.  Alex Cooper led the way with 3 RBI.

Later this evening at 8:00, women will face #25 O$U.

Didn't see this one coming.  Hoosiers pound #25 O$U 12-3 for their second win of the season.  13 hits for the women led by Hannah Haberstroh with 3 and 4 others with 2 each.  Haberstroh and Alex Cooper each with 3 RBI.  We were aided by 4 Buckeye errors that contributed to 4 of our 12.  Taylor Hess pitched the entire 5-inning run shortened game giving up 8 hits but didn't walk anyone.

Play 2 more today before returning to Bloomington.  Next weekend they'll be in Tempe, AZ for 5-games in the Littlewood Invitational.

Hopefully Florida Atlantic is just that good again. Clearly IU is not a national championship team (which we already knew), but beating Ohio State shows this could be a tourney squad again. The win over the Buckeyes is an extreme positive after the negative against FAU.

The other two are must dominates which they did, but says very little about ceiling or floor.
