How would a Hemby/Bebee backfield compare to Lawton/Ellison?

Similar in that all four are three down, multi-dimensional backs that can catch passes, have enough speed to get to the edges, and have enough power to play on 3rd and inches.

This is really incredibly good.

Hemby would be a good pickup. Had some production at this level, 4.5 YPC and 6 scores with another TD receiving last season.

Just entered the portal a couple days ago I think, so if he commits I'd say he at least had an idea where he was going.

Hemby is your protoypical Maryland guy. Freaky athlete. He doesn't look fast in the open field, but then you notice (especially in his 75 yarder against us) that he's actually dusting everyone. I would bet dollars to donuts he's open-field faster than anyone in our room this year. Built like a brick s**t house. Solid and, most importantly, willing in pass protection. Not terribly elusive, but I don't think we really ask our guys to be. I'll be really friggin' fired up for he and Beebe to be next season's 6 and 17, if that wasn't apparent.

  1. Hemby was also an All-State track athlete in high school. He fast.
  2. In 2022, he was named Academic All-Big Ten. The same year, he finished the season ranked third among all FBS freshmen in yards from scrimmage (1,287) while scoring the second-most rushing touchdowns ever by a Maryland freshman (10). He earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and College Football News Third Team Freshman All-American merit for his play on the field.

In 2023, Hemby boasted the highest cumulative GPA on the football team while earning College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. He’s also very involved in the community. A native of Edgewood, Md., and a graduate of The John Carroll School, Hemby hosts an annual youth football camp in the area where he grew up.

“We talk about Roman the football player, but Roman the person, Roman the Maryland Terp representative, is an unbelievable guy,” Locksley said. “Roman Hemby is the real deal as a person. Kudos to his mom and dad [for] the job they've done [as parents].”
