Class of '66 Old Fart

IU Baseball @ Myrtle Beach - Feb. 16-18, 2024

Recommended Posts

Really sloppy inning. I had zero issues with anything yesterday and Duke was just a little better.

Today it is a 2-2 tie to the 7th due to the Hoosiers' own mistakes. They have left a ton of runners on base which is somewhat out of your control. However, D really struggled in the sixth with a couple mistakes which gave Coastal a couple of free runs. IU should probably be up something like 5 or 6-0. However, it should be at least 2-0 if the defense were clean.

Somewhat encouraged by the pitching outside of Kraft. Still makes me really nervous to not have legit starters who can go 5-6 innings. However, four at a time can work but remains to be seen. Bats always take a few games to heat up so no concern there.

9-3 final.

We got 2 quick runs to open the game.  Added 3 more in the 3rd via a 2-run HR from Shepard and a solo HR from Colopy.  George Mason picked up 3 and it was 5-3 after 6 innings.  In the 8th, Mathison hit a 3-run shot, his 31st career HR to make it 8-3 and we added one more in the 9th.

Ethan Phillips got his first career start and went 3.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB.  He struck out 5 but also hit 3 batters.  Seti Manase came on in relief for 2.1 innings and gave up a run on 1 hit; he struck out 2.   Julian Tonghini made his Hoosier debut in relief of Manase in the 7th.  In 3 innings allowed a single hit and faced just 10 batters.

Hoosiers go 2-1 on the weekend and return to Bloomington for our home opener Tuesday against Miami (OH).
