MaxPreps named him its 2022-2023 Michigan High School Basketball Player of the Year.  

Darius Acuff of Cass Tech (Detroit) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Michigan High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard led the Technicians to a 27-1 record and the school's first Division 1 state championship.

For the season, Acuff averaged 21.4 points and 5.7 assists per game. With his team trailing 54-51 in the state semifinals, he banked in a 3-pointer with three seconds left to extend the contest and allow Cass Tech to claim a 62-56 win over Grand Blanc.

MaxPreps Michigan Player of the Year Darius Acuff led Cass Tech to the Division 1 state title. 

Acuff scored 19 points in the semifinal win as well as a 78-63 win over Muskegon in the title game.

Eric Bossi  --  A smooth operator on offense who sees angles, plays through contact and explodes through holes in the defense, what makes Acuff so dangerous is that he can really shoot from deep as well. After Sunday morning’s explosion, he’s averaging 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists through 12 EYBL games. He’s also knocking home 38% of his threes and is only turning the ball over 1.4 times per game despite being tasked with a lot of ball handling.

Watching Acuff’s State Championship game from March right now. I have to guess he didn’t play travel ball last summer because the only way he’s not a highly, highly rated kid is lack of exposure. Seriously, any idiot sees it. Great frame, quick, strong, solid handle, great stroke, playing under control. This has been a pleasure to watch. Really looking forward to watching more.
