NOTES

Indiana currently holds its longest win streak over another Big Ten opponent against Illinois. It is currently on a 13-game win streak against the Fighting Illini, dating back to the 2013-14 season.

All-time, the Hoosiers are 19-21 in Big Ten openers but have won its last four-straight league debuts. Its last two victories in openers in 2020-21 and 2021-22 were both 30-point victories over Penn State last season (70-40) and Nebraska (81-45) both at home. This is the fourth-straight home Big Ten opener.

IU used 49 combined points from senior forward Mackenzie Holmes and junior guard Sydney Parrish to rout the No. 6 North Carolina Tar Heels, 87-63, on Thursday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Hoosiers shot 53.3 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from the 3-point line where they tied a season-high with 12 makes. Two players also flirted with triple doubles in junior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil (10 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds) and freshman guard Yarden Garzon (9 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds).

Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes might already be in midseason form as she has impressed in the Hoosiers' last three outings. Scoring 20-points or more in those contests, she holds the longest streak of her career with 20-point games and first since Tyra Buss did it in the 2018 WNIT title run. She's averaging 26.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 76.2 percent from the floor.

34-32 IU halftime lead after the Illini went on a tear outscoring us 21-13 in the 2nd Q.

Pts:  Mack 13; Chloe 10; Sydney 7          52% FG; 44% on 3s         Illinois:  43% FG; 56% on 3s

Reb:  Sydney 3; Mack, Garzon and Scalia each with 2

Garzon has 3 fouls which is not good given how short our bench is.
