Indiana men's soccer (7-3-4, 3-1-3 B1G) will kick off the final week of the regular season with a road matchup against in-state, non-conference opponent Evansville (6-3-4, 3-0-3 MVC).

The match will be streamed live on the ESPN+ digital platform with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET.

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana is 2-0-0 against in-state opponents, defeating Butler, 2-1, and Notre Dame, 1-0, earlier this season.

Rain should be through by game time but kickoff delayed 30 min to give field time to dry.

This Evansville team is much better than it has been in a long time. IU's best effort wins easily as the two teams on IU's level UE has faced they have lost 3-1 to Xavier and 2-0 to Louisville. However, they can actually give IU a decent challenge and represent a decent top 100 (barely) road win.

I expect results to be much more similar to the 2-1 or 3-2 win IU got in Evansville in 2008 and 2011 rather than the multiple goal laughers we have since then. It will basically like being playing a bottom level Big Ten team like Wisconsin rather than a bottom team in all of D1 soccer. Nacho Diaz is an elite scorer for them.

Diaz is one hell of a scorer, unfortunately, I will not be able to make the game tonight

Tommy Mihalic ain't so bad.  Just 2:28 into the match and Mihalic put it in the net with an assist from Ryan Wittenbrink.  Hoosiers with a quick 1-0 lead.

IU's Big Ten Title chances are out of their hands with OSU's win tonight. A win over Maryland Sunday clinches a top two seed though and two home games in Big Ten Tourney. Tie clinches top four seed and one home game. Loss makes it's dicey and team will be close to whether they get four seed and home game or travel as five seed.

To win share of conference title and one seed to host entire Big Ten Tourney, Hoosiers now need to beat Maryland AND have OSU lose or tie against bad Wisconsin team.

AND UE equalizes despite IU dominating the match because the our goalkeeping is so bad this yr. I don't know why Haarms came so far out of goal when IU has plenty of speed on D and because of it UE easily goes around him for goal. That has happened way to much this yr where goalie makes an awful decision..

I hope the goalie recruit Hoosiers have coming in from Fort Wayne can play or Yeagley can pluck someone in portal because what you have now is costing you games and possibly your season. Everything else has been good but can't win with this level of goalie and its happened all yr.

Tie.

In terms of the larger picture this season this result has little meaning and a conference title and everything you hoped for is in reach. From a practical standpoint, how IU plans to beat Maryland and possibly win the Big Ten and win three games in the Big Ten Tourney is beyond me. They do play better at home but this team has a couple huge flaws they have not in past.

For one they lack a competent goalkeeper which is a must if you want to make a deep run in anything and also they don't have a go to scorer at the front. The second part is easier to work around and IU has the talent to do so and has for a good chunk of the season. How team plans to overcome bad goalkeeping is a much bigger issue.

This Evansville team is not bad and could win the Valley and it's no different than playing MSU or Wisconsin this year. IU often scores early just on talent and then the goalie either does something stupid or is unable to save an opposing teams best chance of the night. IU then has to search for a winner and sometimes they get it and sometimes they don't.

Yeagley is clearly out of answers in net and that is why he keeps switching up and both Haarms and Pratt are making the same mistakes. I expect an IU goalie to save every normal ball and make 4-5 spectacular saves a season. This year there have been zero spectacular saves and 4-5 softer goals that should not have happened if the goalie makes a better decision. That right now is the difference between a decent season team is having and the normal spectacular seasons they usually do.

Evansville did exactly what they needed to committing extra defenders back as the less talented team and used one counter to tie the game and IU could have just as easily won or lost depending on who's good chances went in besides the goals.

RPI is now 29 which will easily get you into NCAA Tourney, but your not getting your normal top 16 seed and bye unless you beat Maryland and get to championship game of Big Ten Tourney.

The Big Ten is upside down this year outside Maryland. IU has been a tad disappointing but PSU easily takes crown as most underachieving after winning both regular season and conf tourney last year. This year they will not make NCAA Tourney (without winning Big Ten Tourney) despite losing only one good player and returning four of their five elite scorers. Also, Michigan who is always good is second to last in conference.

On flip side Rutgers and OSU who are annual doormats have had terrific years. OSU could win Big Ten with victory Sunday and Maryland loss or tie to us. Rutgers a top four conference team and likely headed to big dance.
