Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 Watched my second game of Benet Academy (7-2) and ranked #1 in Class 4A as they defeated Marist (7-6) 64-54. Not nearly as impressed with the Benet team as a whole as I was in the first game I watched. Blame it on the holidays. I scored Beaumont with 15p; 6r; 7a; 3s; 1b; 3t. 6-16 FG; 0-5 on 3s; 3-5 FT. She could have easily had 3 more assists as she found wide open teammates under the basket and they missed the bunnies. Definitely not a catch and shoot player as almost every 2-point shot she attempted came off her own dribble. Handles the ball well with either hand and always keeps her head up. Late in the game she took an inbounds pass and went coast to coast. In the process at one point she went behind her back left to right and a couple of dribbles later went behind her back right to left. Needs to do a better job of finishing at the rim and possibly improve her lateral quickness. She's ranked #83 by ESPN. Coach Moren wanted her; Coach Moren got her and I'm glad she did. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Another Beaumont game available on YouTube. Benet Academy (8-2) with a 61-40 win over Saint Viator (4-7). Not her best shooting night just 4-14 FG; 1-5 on 3s; 3-4 FT; 7r; 1a; 0s; 0b; 2t. Thought she forced too many shots and ended up not being able to finish at the rim or just took a bad shot. She wears #5 and left the game for the last time at the 4:38 mark in the 4th Q. TTT 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 Lenee Beaumont gave the Benet faithful a scare when she took a nasty fall on a drive to the basket in the second quarter Tuesday. But she was ready to go back in right away. Her future college coach at Indiana, in attendance, joked that he saw Beaumont's leg anxiously shake on the sideline waiting to return to the court. "I was about to chase down the trainer, but I couldn't find her," Beaumont said. "I'm good. I don't know what happened. I just know I banged my head pretty hard." There was no keeping Beaumont down. The Indiana recruit took over when the Redwings needed her most, scoring her team's last nine points of the third quarter to take the lead for good. Benet went on to a hard-fought 47-37 win over York. Tied 22-22 at half, the two teams exchanged the lead six times during a back and forth third quarter. Stella Kohl's driving layup with 1:32 left in the third quarter gave York (9-3) its last lead, 34-33, but Beaumont came back with a driving score of her own. Beaumont followed that with a putback off a turnover, then capped off her scoring binge with a deep three-pointer from near the Redwings' bench. It sent Benet (9-2) into the fourth quarter ahead 40-34. "Going into the third quarter, tied at half, I was pretty upset about that, I knew had to take over," said Beaumont, who finished with 20 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and four assists. "I had to figure things out before it was too late." Figure it out she did, as Beaumont scored or assisted on Benet's last 16 points. "We got her the ball downhill a little bit and she was able to make some plays for us," Benet coach Joe Kilbride said. Those are the kind of plays that Indiana associate head coach Rhet Wierzba, who was the lead recruiter for Beaumont, looks forward to her bringing to Bloomington over the next four seasons. He wasn't surprised to see her bounce back up after a couple hard falls Tuesday to lead Benet late. "She's tough -- I knew if they were going to let her play, she was going to play," Wierzba said. "Obviously she is very skilled, dribble, pass, shot, her skill level is at an elite level. It's something you notice right away when you watch her. The way she handles the ball, passes, shoots it, scores at all three levels. And she's such a great person. She fits all the characteristics that we like to see." TTT 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 Rought night for Benet. 22-11 at halftime and Beaumont had 7 of the 11 for Benet. Nazareth strong defensive pressure and had 10 steals in the half. Benet got within 5 pts with a minute left in the game but ended up losing 37-32. Beaumont 20p and 12r for Benet. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 8, 2023 Author Posted January 8, 2023 Benet overwhelmed Joliet Catholic 61-18. Beaumont played no more than 18 minutes and scored 20p on 8-10 FG; 1-1 on 3s; and 3-3 FT. Added 8r; 2a; 2s; 0b; 1t. Really feel good about the 2 girls who will join our team next season. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Yesterday, Benet Academy (13-5) routed Proviso West (3-13) 60-36 in a game that seemed to take a week and a half to complete. Turnovers, jump balls, fouls, senseless timeouts. Benet put its starting 5 on the bench just 2 minutes into the 3rd Q and the lead never shrunk. Lenee finished with 17p; 7r; 1a; 2s; 1b; 0t in just 16 minutes of court time. 7-13 FG; 0-3 on 3s; 3-6 FT. Quote
