Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 15, 2022 Author Posted May 15, 2022 As we head into the final day of the B1G Track and Field championships, here's an update on the Governor's Cup competition. We hold a 9.5 to 8.5 advantage over PUke with 1 point up for grabs in the men's competition and 1 point in the women's. After 6 of 21 events have been completed on the men's side, PUke is in 5th place overall with 22 points and our Hoosiers are in 11th with 7 points. On the women's side, 9 of 21 events have been completed and our Hoosiers are in 7th place with 22 points; PUke women (and I use the term loosely) are in 12th place with 5 points. mamasa 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 Thanks to @mamasa for mentioning the competition in the swimming and diving thread and for those unfamiliar with it, here's the background. For more than a century, Purdue and Indiana have squared off in intercollegiate athletic competition. As the rivalry flourished and the stakes outgrew mere bragging rights, traveling trophies emerged. The Old Oaken Bucket is at stake each fall on the gridiron. In women's basketball, the Barn Burner Trophy is on the line. In volleyball, the Monon Spike is in play. And in women's soccer, it's the Golden Boot. Since 2001-02, the two schools have conducted an all-sports competition. It originally was known as the Titan Series until 2004, when it was renamed the Crimson & Gold Cup. It became the Governor's Cup in 2013. Points are awarded to the winning team in each of the schools' 20 shared sports. If the two teams do not meet during the regular season, the higher finisher at the Big Ten Championships is the point winner. In the case of ties, both teams get half a point. In 20 years of competition, Purdue has captured the title seven times and Indiana 11 times. Two years have ended in a tie. The Boilermakers have won four of the last six crowns: 12-8 in 2013-14, 10-9 in 2014-15, 12.5-7.5 in 2015-16 and 10.5-9.5 in 2017-18. Purdue's 12.5 points in 2015-16 are tied for the most ever by either school (also Indiana in 2008-09). The 2019-20 competition was declared a no-contest 2022-23 GOVERNOR'S CUP SCHEDULE, RESULTS Sport (Pts.)
