Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 IUWBB (9-3) (7-2) needs to regroup after the tough loss to O$U and take out some revenge on MSU (9-3) (4-3). We definitely need to regain our 3-point shooting touch. Radio Live Stats ABOUT THE SPARTANS Coming off a 40-point loss at No. 7 Maryland and dropping three of the last four, the Spartans will also look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon. They are led by junior guard Nia Clouden who averages 19.1 points and 4.5 assists per game. Sophomore guard Alyza Winston adds 12.1 points per contest while sophomore guard Julia Ayrault adds 10.0 points per game. They are averaging 79.1 points and shooting 45.8 percent from the floor. NOTES The Hoosiers are coming off a 78-70 loss to Ohio State on Thursday night. Junior guard Grace Berger and sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes each had double-doubles in the loss. Each pulled down 10 rebounds while Berger tied a career-high 26 points. Holmes also ended Thursday night's game with five blocks, upping her season total to 38 swats on the season. She ranks second in the Big Ten in blocks and blocks per game. She's also coming close to hitting the record books for single season blocks in IU history, needing four more to tie Jill Chapman's 42 blocks in 1999-00 for 11th place. Senior guard Ali Patberg continues to climb her way up IU's all-time assists list. Her 363 career dimes rank eight in program history and needs three more to tie Emma Urzua (1993-95). Indiana comes in at No. 10 in the latest NET rankings, which replaced the previously used RPI system. They are the third highest Big Ten team in the NET rankings this season. IU and MSU have played a highly-competitive series in the last seven games dating back to 2017. Indiana is 4-3 in the last seven meetings. UP NEXT The Hoosiers are next scheduled to face Iowa in Iowa City on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2. HoosierAloha and mamasa 2 Quote

Aaron Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Absolutely disgusting and inexcusable first half from a veteran squad. This team is built on defense and taking care of the ball and they allowed about 70% shooting with a ton of turnovers for second straight game. This MSU team is pretty good but not that good and a game the Hoosier should absolutely win without to much trouble. We easily took care of a similar MSU team last yr. This is not a 20 pt win but should be relatively comfortable 5-10. Team better come out with a big second half or else some serious questions need to be asked why this team has taken a step backwards with basically same team? I could of asked the same thing after playing NW last week, but team responded with huge second half. Time to do it again or else we might need to reexamine where program is at and what is happening. Get real Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app No its not dramatic. Why is a team that is the same as last year taken a step back? Thats a big red flag. Why have they constantly played better on the road than at home last two yrs? Yes the program is light years ahead of what is has ever been, but they are also having stinkers that don't match a team of their talent level with four 5* recruits in starting lineup. Quote

Aaron Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Quote Just now, mamasa said: Please. Look where the program is and where they have been before spewing your amateur knee jerk cliches. It’s a slump. Happens in every sport within both genders Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app No doubt program is miles ahead of where it has ever been. No argument. With that said their ability to perform at home and seize games they should win is an increasing issue last couple yrs. Quote

Aaron Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Much better third quarter. Now finish unlike what happened against Tennessee and Ohio St. Game incredibly close. Quote
Aaron Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Absolutely killer start to 4th quarter! Now you have space with a 9 pt lead. Now put it away just like against NW. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 A much better second half and especially a dominant 4th Q and we get a 79 - 67 win. This was our 800th win in program history. After MSU's torrid shooting in the 1st half, we held them to 32% in the 2nd half. Points - 4 starters in double figures: Holmes 17; Patberg 15; Gulbe 14; Penn 13; Berger 9 Reb: Berger 9; Patberg 6; Gulbe 4 Assists: Berger 7; Patberg 5 3-point shooting: 7-10 FT shooting: 18-21 Turnovers: 16 Shooting: IU 55% MSU 49% Solid contribution off the bench from Cardaño-Hillary with 7 points, 1 reb; 1 asst in 11 minutes of action. Aaron Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 This was a reverse mirror of last game against OSU and an exact mirror of last yrs home MSU game where we were down and played a bad first half than turned it on in second half. Both games ended with the exact same score also. It also mirrored the NW game with a huge comeback in second half. I was not mad about OSU and Maryland as those teams are probably better than IU by a hair. By the same token IU is just a hair better or even with Mich, NW, MSU and Iowa. IU is now 2-0 against that bunch with 4 more left to play (Iowa twice, Mich once and MSU on road assuming game is rescheduled and I have every reason to believe it will as conference is prioritizing make up games for the teams in top half of league). You are not going to beat OSU in Columbus either because they are a truly special team. You also will beat Rutgers, PU, Illinois, Wisconsin and PSU as those teams are garbage. How you do in the 4 games against the teams I mentioned in the tossups is the difference between a decent 13-7 and a potentially a special 17-3 or 16-4 depending on how well those coin flip games go. That's why beating the MSU's of the world is so big and who you need to be judged against. Great response today just like NW game. Quote
