Settle for a coach with a mediocre resume and squad ends up being only fall team sport of the five in competition currently not ranked and doing well.

Every other program got best coach available at time and this one settled, hence the difference. Clearly IU had to draw a line somewhere which I am fine with but its clear this program is here to satisfy Title IX so men's soccer can exist and win big.

No issues with that but it explains the massive gap in the other fall sports so far compared to this one.

Rough start to the west coast road trip as the IU women fall to #10 UCLA 5-0 in a match that was just 1-0 at the break.  Hoosiers finished with just 4 total shots, 2 on goal and 4 corners.  Meanwhile the Bruins fired off 21 total shots, 14 on goal and 8 corners.

Sunday at 4:00 ET, IU women (4-8-1) (1-6-0) are at USC (1-8-4) (0-5-2).  Televised on B1G+.

IU women gave up a USC goal just 53 seconds into the match and trailed 2-0 at halftime.  But they fought back and salvaged a 2-2 tie.  We had 11 total shots, 5 on goal and 7 corners.  USC 12-3-4.  They return to Bloomington to host Michigan State next Friday night.

Not unexpectedly, the PUke women take possession of the Golden Boot and win the first point in this year's Governor's Cup competition with a 5-0 total domination win.  We managed just 2 shots for the entire game and didn't have a single corner vs. PUke with 23-12-10.  Mercifully, just 2 more matches remain in the season.

You wouldn’t think NIL plays much of an impact with women’s soccer but maybe it does.  Either way, it’s kinda shocking how bad this program is year in and year out.

As I have said what do you expect when you make a budget hire of a guy from Ball State who was not successful there and your last coach left to be an assistant elsewhere because he didn't think he was getting enough resources?

Dolson has made clear women's soccer is there to comply with Title IX so men can be elite. In many ways he was rightly decided money is a finite resource (especially with NIL) and this is no longer Fred Glass' '24 sports 1 team' which caused IU to be good at random sports but bad at the big ones.

Dolson has clearly instituted a tiered system for resources and its why the top sports are now ranked this fall but ones down the ladder like here are struggling. You can disagree with how this has been done but this is behind the struggles.

Makes sense we are a bad program and it’s hard to jumpstart a bad program, but are programs actually spending real money on women’s soccer anywhere?  It just seems like a wasted resource anywhere, especially with NIL.  I mean take whoever is the best womens program and let’s get some idea of what their NIL spending is.  I can’t fathom it being real money.  Am I wrong?

I know Women’s basketball and women’s softball generates revenue and requires NIL to be uber competitive.

Id love to know IUMS NIL budget.  And I’m glad it’s wherever it is, because watching these good competitive Indiana soccer teams is a lot of fun.

You are not wrong.  Another thing to consider is we hired a staff that may not win a lot but will likely not create problems either. I know the assistant coaches a little and they had a great culture and program at a lower level plus they have a much better relationship with Indiana clubs than the prior staff.

A lot of NIL no. A little yes.

Almost certainly, top programs like yearly UNC, PSU, and FSU spend a small fraction of NIL budget and rev share on women's soccer and that's difference. Especially when IU has mediocre staff.
