TheWatShot Posted March 8 Posted March 8 The second baseman literally throwing the game at UNC set the tone for the season. Feels like a mistake-prone team that isn't seriously going to contend for anything. Quote

See my previous post about development and the non-existent "Bloomington Limestones" model Mercer uses and you have your answer. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Hoosiers take a 12-4 mid-week win over Wright State and will be in Eugene, OR next weekend. We scored 4 in the 1st and never looked back adding 3 in the 6th and 5 more in the 8th. 8 Hoosier pitchers gave up 10 hits (5 for extra bases) and walked 5. We had 16 hits led by Will Moore going 4-4 with Denny and Koskie getting 3 hits apiece. Koskie had 5 RBI. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Saturday at 12:22 AM Posted Saturday at 12:22 AM Hoosiers batting in the 5th with a 2-0 lead. Rivera on the mound and has allowed just 1 hit and 2 BB. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Saturday at 12:13 PM Posted Saturday at 12:13 PM Oregon proceeds to score a run in it's 5th, 6th & 7th and wins 3-2. Our bats were cold getting just 5 hits in the game. Quote
Aaron Posted Saturday at 02:59 PM Posted Saturday at 02:59 PM Another game where the offense failed. Its why people who keep wanting to blame only the pitching are not seeing the whole picture. Especially when offensive production is at all time high in college baseball. Its a ‘not doing the little things’ across the board despite a lot of talent. Nothing egregious shows up in box score, but hitting a batter yesterday on an 0-2 pitch with two outs that later led to a run, is the type of small issues that are leading to losses. Quote

Yeah, it’s a lot of things. Pitching is always most glaring to me. But it’s like we do enough to lose games regularly. When we score a lot of runs other team puts up historic numbers. Then losses like these. We don’t play a winning collegiate style. It’s a bummer. Definitely have some nice talent. Aaron 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Saturday at 11:43 PM Posted Saturday at 11:43 PM We're now 0-2 on the weekend losing to Oregon today 5-1. Neubeck started and went 4 innings giving up 7 hits and charged with all 5 Oregon runs. Mastalski, Engish and Haas closed it out and only allowed 1 more hit but the damage was done. We had a whopping 2 hits today after getting just 5 yesterday. Try to salvage one tomorrow before flying home. Tuesday evening we'll be at Vanderbilt. Next weekend we host Minnesota for a weekend series. Quote
Aaron Posted Saturday at 11:52 PM Posted Saturday at 11:52 PM Clearly we are at the point where the offense is at a point where it is as big a problem as the pitching. Two games the pitchers have given up eight runs. That should be more than enough to win at least one but not when you score three in that time. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Sunday at 10:38 PM Posted Sunday at 10:38 PM Barring some miraculous turnaround we can probably write this season off. We led 6-5 after 7 complete. Oregon scores 1 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th and we go 0-3 on the weekend. 4 Hoosier pitchers gave up 11 hits and issued 4 BB and just for kicks hit 5 batters. We had 8 hits but not particularly timely leaving 7 on base. Maybe we can take out some frustration Tuesday evening in Nashville when we face Vanderbilt. Next weekend we host Minnesota. Quote
Aaron Posted yesterday at 12:16 AM Posted yesterday at 12:16 AM Cant score six runs in first three innings and then offense dies, especially on a Sunday when pitching is running low and it often takes double digit runs to win. Pitching has battled and finally has three starters but the offense has gone in toilet. Last years offense with this years pitching easily wins league. Its like football pre-Cignetti where one thing would be fixed and then another hole opens. Dolson is going to have to take a serious look at program's direction in offseason. Its inexcusable Big Ten is having one of best years ever RPI wise and IU's at very bottom of league. Quote
