[Class of '66 Old Fart]

Hoosiers return home with a 9-4 win over Indiana State.  6 IU pitchers gave up 7 hits, walked 5 and hit 3.  Offensively, we had 8 hits led by Dickerson with 3 and Hanley with 2 and each had 2 RBI.  We host Ohio State this weekend.

Per Jeff Mercer, 3B Josh Pyne sustained an additional injury and will be out for the foreseeable future, if not the entirety of the 2025 season.

Hoosiers sweep the Buckeyes winning 12-2 and 8-7 on Friday and 14-3 today to give us a 4-2 conference record.  Tuesday evening we host Evansville at 6:00 and next weekend we're in LA for a 3-game series with the Bruins.

Hoosiers hang a 7-4 loss on Evansville.  6 IU pitchers limited UE to 6 hits and 3 BB.  Taylor 3 hits and 2 RBI.  Malamazian also with 2 RBI.  This coming weekend we're in LA to play UCLA.

Tonight's game is already ugly and we've only batted twice.  8-0 as the Hoosiers already have banged out 10 hits that included 3 HRs.

Final 13--0 as 7 IU pitchers each throw an inning and limit Bellarmine to 3 hits.  Offensively we finished with 15 hits (4 HR) and Cerny with an inside-the-park HR.  Malamazian had a grand slam and finished the night with 6 RBI.  This weekend USC is in Bloomington.

Jeff Mercer announced that Indiana pitcher Drew Buhr will be out for this weekend’s series vs USC.  Mercer is hopeful that Buhr will return to action in a couple of weeks.  Buhr owns a 2.29 ERA in seven appearances this season, striking out 15 while walking six.

What worries me is when Mercer has given injury reports like this in past at times, it is overly optimistic and player misses most if not all of season. Always seems to way under estimate timelines when giving injury updates whether intentional or accidental.

Hopefully this timeline is accurate.

Next weekend Michigan State (17-10) (4-5) will be in Bloomington for a weekend series

Glant's pitching is gonna blow another game. IU led 4-2 to 8th against Louisville and IU give up four runs late yet again to fall behind. At this point it might be healthier for program if this season finally falls apart and Mercer is forced to get rid of Glant.

Either that or we need an announcement that Glant is gone or 'retiring' at end of year. At this point Glant has become to Mercer what Darren Hiller was to Tom Allen. Slowly but surely eroding away a big part of game and winning with it even if not right away. 

If Mercer insists on keeping Glant he's going to go down with him and it will be well deserved.

Final score 6-4 Louisville.  7 IU pitchers allowed just 6 hits but we played hot potato with the ball and committed 5 errors.  As a result only 2 of Louisville's 6 were earned runs.  We only had 4 hits of our own in the game.

Next weekend Michigan State (17-10) (4-5) will be in Bloomington for a weekend series

In a season that seems to be going nowhere fast, Hoosiers (15-14) (6-6) host Michigan State (17-10) (4-5) for a weekend series.  All 3 games televised on B1G+.   All 3 days have rain in the forecast so the current weekend schedule will likely get changed.

plus Merce won the conference his first season and was WELLLLLL on our way to repeating and covid hit. We were really good that year and had just beat ECU @ECU on a Friday night.... 

 

We can want more, but the reality is.... this sport is so geared against Northern schools it's almost unbelievable. Spend more money on baseball, please. 

 

We have had REALLY good crowds this year.

They have been among the best 'midgets' in the Big Ten in the Mercer era and finished 1st, 3rd, 8th, 2nd, 3rd. Outside of that atrocious 2022, they have been competing for the title at or near the top of the conference ever since Mercer has been here and been to the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa is a top competitor in the Big Ten each year like IU which has led to a great series every time they play and the Hoosiers have dominated Northwestern each yr who is indeed bad.

Don't conflate this year with the rest of the era which has been as amongst the very best in the Big Ten.
