Think we were 1 in the country? I remember the game well but it was a road game knight did bench the starters and it was a big ten team so that is why i didnt put it ahead of this loss

We were ranked around 15th. Henderson only played about 10 minutes and Bailey got benched the whole second half. It was close until about halfway thru first half, then all hell broke loose. That was a depressing one for sure, but I have several that were much more infuriating.

1992- lost to PU last game of season in Mackey, cost us the B10 title. So ticked off I broke out in hives. Truth, ask my wife.

I’m not sure what our ranking was at the time, only that it was high. I guess for some reason I remember that as a home game. You sure it was on the road? I’ll take your word for it.

I remember that ‘92 game. But the reason the ‘94 game was more depressing to me was it felt like the end. Like I knew we weren’t going to win anything with RMK again. He just sat there while we got murdered. No yelling. Didn’t look pissed. Just felt different from any loss in my lifetime.

Fort Wayne sucks but in all honesty that’s how we used to view Butler. Shitty team from a shitty conference in state. Nothing surprises me anymore when a team comprised of Indiana kids beats us. They are pissed we didn’t recruit them. We don’t come to play and they get hot. Formula for a state school beating us for my lifetime.

Yes just went on YouTube and relived some of it. Did not see ranking but it wasn't as high as i thought. It was at minnesota best part is they were still running up the score on us under a minute to go lol

Food for thought.

Archie owns 2 of the top 5 Assembly Hall (since 1971) losses by margin of victory. All the other losses in the top 10 are to power 5 schools.

Where is that ledge to jump off from?

That is kind of impressive really

Yeah, that’s right I remember now. I saw someone on here say we were 15th at the time but I think it was higher than that. Possibly 11-12? The thing I remember was being really excited before the start because we could have taken over 1st in the Big Ten with a win. Kind of started to unravel after that. Not completely, they still went to the sweet 16 but didn’t finish strong in conference. I agree with what mdn82 said as well. Kind of felt like that was the start of it slipping away. Watching coach just sitting there like he didn’t care was so, I don’t know, unreal almost.

Before this season we only had two 20+ losses at AH. Both were during the true Crean Rebuild. Crazy isn’t it?

Syracuse. I honestly think that should be everyones. (of the past five years at least haha)

Two top five draft picks, two all americans, a somewhat talented roster. All because we didn't know what a 2-3 zone was. Ruined my love for IU basketball for the past few years. I didn't even watch games until last year when I was team tank.
Now I don't miss an IU game. Archie brought my love back for IU.
It's Indiana it's Indiana!!

I don’t remember when it was, maybe 94-95? One of RMK’s teams lost a game to a 10 loss Minnesota team by 50 points. Like 105-54. Minny was bottom of BigTen and Indiana was either leading or in 2nd. Was only our 5th loss of the year if I remember right. I think we were 16-4 when it happened.

Knight pulled the starters 10 minutes into the game and played the bench for 30 minutes. Never would of been 50 with the starters. Also that Minnesota team finished 10-8 and in 4th place. Not sure where you got they were at the bottom?

Yep that was my game too that I brought up. At the time we were both top 25 teams, but Minny was trending down. I think they had just got smoked if I remember correctly. That was a depressing game.

Honestly if I was coach I'd be giving these kids these stats. It's beyond embarrassing. Part of me feels bad for Archie. Part of me faults him for allowing it to happen. If I was a player and knew I was part of 2 of the worst losses in the last 46 years you can bet your @$$ I'd be beyond heated up and playing with fire coming out of my ears.

How is it that I'm more embarrassed and motivated to win than the players?

Losing to Minnesota in ‘94 by 50 when we were a decently high ranked team. They scored over 100 on us.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Wasn’t Pat Knight the player of the game on that one?
He was a helluva passer you know.

Knight was pissed st the effort the starters gave the game before and played the bench the entire game.
We had already won the big ten but that lesson cost us when they seeded the tourney.Pretty boneheaded way to make a point.
If Im remembering wrong feel free to correct me.

They way the season is going it's entirely possible Archie owns all the top 10 worst losses in Assembly Hall history by season's end.

Didn’t UM win it that year?

Purdue won it that year, followed by UM and then IU in 3rd. The loss to Minnesota was significant because a win meant we’d have moved into a tie for 1st with 4 games remaining. Instead, we got rolled and then dropped 2 of the next 4. Dropping us to 3rd.
