2017 March Madness Tournament Thread

Jay Wright at Villanova has consistently underachieved in the NCAA tournament except for last year. This is just what Wisconsin does too. They're so well coached and so fundamentally sound. First one to 40 wins the UW/UVA game

It happens to every coach. Jay Wright has had a lot of good runs though. Last year and then the Randy Foye years. Still one of the best. Maybe he would answer a IU phone call now lol.

Bill Self has underachieved as well. These guys are obviously good coaches but you have to do it when it matters most too. Each of them has once. But anyone with a brain would say that Self should have more than 1 national championship

How many active coaches have multiple championships? Very hard to win this thing twice. (Pitino, k, Williams)

I agree on Self. Wright has only really had the talent last year and this year so this doesnt discredit him one bit in my opinion but Self always have a lotto pick and several other kids that were highly ranked. With the way their fan base travels too they always usually have the advantage in that sense as well.

Kansas has won the Big XII thirteen straight years. This year has yet to be concluded so we'll go off the first 12 years. They made just 2 FFs. I'm sorry but that's just not good enough when you're a 1 or 2 seed year in and year out

Yup. Some may call me crazy but surprised he hasnt been fired yet. But I will say Bill Self to the guys that are out there is probably their best choice. I think Jay Wright would go there without a doubt though unless he really does love the Philly area as much as they say.

I view Jay Wright as I do Gregg Marshall and Mark Few. Those three coaches are staying right where they are throughout their days

I'm always worried when I pick Kansas to go deep in the tournament in my bracket. Maybe it just sticks out to me more when they get upset, but it seems like they underachieve a lot of the time.

It's because they do. Bet on them to win the Big XII every single year. But don't bet on them in March. They'll probably lose to Michigan State tomorrow

I watched OK State vs ISU. I thought OK State looked good, not great. Their PG is pretty good and matched up well vs ISU's Monte Morris.

OK State runs an interesting style on offense under first-year coach Brad Underwood.

How interesting is their style?

First-year Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner adopted Underwood's offense at Ga Tech, he said, because Pastner's Memphis team had so much trouble with it when they faced Stephen F Austin last year when Underwood was head coach at Stephen F. Austin.

That's about as good a compliment as you will find.

So I watched OK State, curious about the offense. It looked like a lot of high post feeds and then cutters off of the high post, frequently with handoffs from the high post man. Frequently with fake handoffs from the post man as players runs in different directions toward the high post player with the ball.

That's not what they do every time. But they do a lot of that.

And if I'm watching it right, that stuff is nothing new. It's actually ancient. I think it's remnants of the old Adolph Rupp scissors play, 1948.

But it's unique, which is good in this day and age of increasingly homogenized basketball.

Shocking, mostly because OSU has Pickens deep pockets. Figured if it's a money deal that they'd fight to keep him.

He's good. Remains to be seen how he recruits but he's a really good offensive coach as I said. Did a tremendous job at Stephen F Austin and got Okie State back to relevance in a hurry.

Would the Cowboys go after/consider Crean? Would be a good landing spot for him. You can compete there.

I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Izzo always has his teams playing at their best come tournament time. That's one guy I'd want to avoid in the tournament if I was a coach.

Good lord yes. Izzo almost always meets or exceeds expectations in March
