My step dad is a huge Tennessee fan as well and just text me and said you guys stole one from us. I responded with a please elaborate lol. To make it short he said their fans have been saying this guy is the reason Butch Jones is still around, recruits love him, and he will be a head coach somewhere soon. That is enough for me.

I like your feedback better than mine lol. Hopefully your stepdad is right and CTA giving him complete freedom as OC will allow him (and sub sequentially us) to flourish.

Ok here's what my Vols friend just texted me in response to this: "Yeah I saw that. He seemed to do ok at Tennessee. Just spread offense so if you have a duel threat quarterback it seemed to work best ."

Not really sure what this means, as Lagow definitely isn't a dual threat guy. Man I would kill to have a Tre Roberson here right now. What about the redshirt King, isn't he more of a dual threat option? Or Ramsey?

Josh Dobbs seemed to never take the "next" step with him at the helm which worries me, but I do feel like that isn't all on him. I think King should be our guy next year with what I have heard. Ramsey wouldn't be a bad option either. Paige coming back gives us a big option, but we need a guy on the outside with Jones being gone that can help out whoever is our guy. Graduate transfers seem to be options at both spots of QB and WR. I am happy with our O line and running game.

I thought I read he had planned to retire before the IU opportunity came around.

Yeah from what I've seen, he was going to retire soon but decided to see what IU had to offer. So I don't know how much excitement he will bring to the job as a 60-yr old coordinator.

Why? Just curious.

I just hate Tennessee. Lol I mean they were 4th in SEC scoring. He's a spread guy which goes against the run run run idea Allen brought forth. also, jalen heard was very upset with how he was used. I believe this comes back to OC. I'll give him a chance. Surprised we got him from SEC.

Paige coming back? Thought he was done. No?

Thoughts on whether this is a short term hire to allow Heard time to further develop and prepare to take on OC?

Sounds like the most likely scenario. A vols site I was reading had more than a few fans that thought he was retiring, so he'll likely get to retire in his homestate while mentoring someone to take his spot.

Paige is done. But we get Simmie and J-Shun back next year. Cobbs and Westbrook on the outside and Harris in the slot backed up by Timian. Also have Taysir Mack and Jonah Morris, both RS this year and both have size( 6'2" and 6'4").

I don't know anything about him, but any time you can get a guy who's had some level of success in the SEC and can recruit?  You've done something good.  I know some don't care for him, but Indiana will never, ever win as a primarily defensive focused team; so a good offensive mind is needed.   If he can recruit and build something worth watching, he'll do just fine at Indiana

Couple of paragraphs from Indystar:  http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2017/01/03/indiana-hoosiers-hire-mike-debord-offensive-coordinator-tom-allen/96112168/

The Volunteers set single-season school records in points scored and total touchdowns in 2016. They finished second in the SEC in scoring offense, and Tennessee was one of just three schools to finish in the top half of the conference in all four major offensive categories: scoring offense, passing offense, rushing offense and total offense.

Tennessee's offense also came under some criticism from fans for its lack of aggressiveness at times, as the heavy SEC East favorites finished just 4-4 in the conference. The Volunteers won their Music City Bowl matchup with Nebraska last week, 38-24.

DeBord's comfort with a spread style, and his offense's success with a more mobile quarterback, would seem to fit the vision Allen has laid out for that side of the ball on his watch.

IU doesn't have a QB commit. DeBord was listed by 247 as primary recruiter for Tennessee commit Will McBride.

I believe McBride is going to be a spring enrollee, so if we're going to poach him we better get on it.
