IU OVER unc POST GAME THREAD

Name a worse loss by a top 10 team.

Top 25**

Could have changed, but at the beginning of the week we had the worst loss in the entire top 25 according to Gary Parrish on his podcast. (Which is a great college basketball podcast btw)

Well I suppose it's technically a fair ranking. I really didn't expect KU and UNC to be so far above us. After all we do have the same record, and we beat them both.

Name better wins.

Did you understand my reply? I agree, we have two excellent wins. They're the best two wins of any team this early and could be two of the best wins all season. We also have the worst loss. That's not debatable.

We would be ahead of both UNC and KU if we would have taken care of business. It's like those wins and loss show our floor and ceiling while KU and UNC have good wins and good losses.

I actually kind of agree with you, but was just laying out some facts I heard last week. I *think* Parrish went by KenPom, but I can't remember. Regardless, having the worst loss in the top 25 will have more of an effect on voters right now than our wins I would think. That'll change when March comes and these rankings actually matter.

I do understand. I don't like it, though I understand the criteria used. I sometimes feel it gets a bit over technical, these rankings. Guess I'm forced to wait for them to lose again. Something tells me it won't be a long wait.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until someone loses because I don't think a win over Butler will jump us too much unless it's absolutely dominant.

I haven't looked at the schedules but I don't see several of the teams ahead of us losing anytime soon. A strong start to the B1G season and a win over UL will help too.

3 neutral court wins over top 25 teams and a win over a top 10 team in the noncon would help our seeding Coke March, where it matters. I don't see the B1G giving us many opportunities for big wins.

Yeah I agree, I meant to say "something tells me it WILL be a long wait". Unfortunately I think for us to move up early, one of those teams is going to have to suffer a bad loss. And what really makes me pull my hair out, is sure, we will be ranked above them, but our win will not look as good.

I wouldn't worry about those wins not looking good. Rankings are weekly and are mostly for fans to look at a brag about their team. When we get to march the committee will compare team sheets ( based on rpi) If Fort Wayne wins their league like the are projected and continue to do well in non conference( notre dame on Wednesday) their rpi will be in the 70's which will not be considered a bad loss on the road by the committee even though I still think it was. If in march Kansas, North Carolina and Indiana are close on the seeding line those wins will be significant regardless if they are ranked 7 spots better then iu

And so then, can we talk Louisville a little? I'm a bit afraid of that one. We have a turnover problem and that's kind of the UL trademark. I have not had a chance to watch them yet. You guys?

I watched old dominion take them to over time. As good as their defense can be, their offense can be that bad. They can have stretches where they really struggle to score the ball.

Yeah, you guys are right. It just made me mad to see KU 6 spots higher.

rankings are weekly. The first game of the season 13 Indiana beat 3 Kansas. The next week Kansas fell like they should of however Kansas turned around and beat the number 1 team in the nation and got rewarded while iu lost to Fort Wayne (Ken Pom 117)

In my anger, I had forgotten that.

They're long and pressure the ball. If we take care of the ball we have a chance. After rebounding the ball well against UNC while also getting back in transition I'm a bit more confident vs. UL. The key will be limiting turnovers and attacking the rim.

Edit: they also struggle to score. If they could score they would have blown pu out. They have a few shooters but mostly just a slew of bigs that could cause TB trouble.
