IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
IUCrazy2 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
True, although to me most of the future is starting next year with JHS, Banks, Gunn, and then the following year with Cupps and Newton. Most of the guys on the team right now are transitional players. What you would like to see happen is Indiana making the tournament over the next 4 years, starting to consistently compete more in the BIG, maybe make a second weekend or 2 push over that time, and then really be hitting stride in year 5. That gives 5 to 7 solid years for Woodson to try and make hay with the recruiting that you would hope develops as guys want to get on board with a resurging blue blood with NIL money to burn. -
IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status

You can transition to that type of team and those type of players though. Was it better for us to have made the tournament this year than to not? I would argue yes. Would losing both Race and TJD have meant that next year was more questionable in the W/L column? I would also argue yes. I believe we can add one more player this year, Reneau would be a guy you grab if you can get him, but I would be looking for the most dynamic scoring wing available in the portal if not him. You figure that (hopefully) Bates of Schifino will lock down that 2 guard spot. So to me the thing that this team most needs will be consistency at Miller Kopp's position that he was not able to bring this year. Having somebody knock down those wide open shots that TJD was getting guys would make this team a Big Ten title contender IMO. We might not win it, but I think we would be in the discussion. Several of the teams above us are losing quite a bit. We would be bringing back our core. A team that is doing well makes future recruiting easier. So keep the core together and work on turning the roster to a more Mike Woodson looking roster in 2023 and beyond. -
To me this is simple. Cop sees X coming his direction at 90 mph. X sees cop. X slows up from 90 mph while cop accelerates to get to turn around and get back on him. Cop makes up the ground fairly quickly. Cop follows X rest of way back to apartment. I would lay money that the guys in the car saw the police car and did what most rational people at that point would do. Slow the f down and hope the cop did not see what you were just doing. He was probably doing the speed limit from that point on if not a little under it.

Just stop. It was a disappointing game. They were playing really well and we were not. If you could not see fatigue watching that game though, you are blind. It absolutely did have an impact on the outcome (maybe not on win or loss, but absolutely on the margin). Yes, we all realize that we need to upgrade talent at several spots on the floor, but this was year 1, we made the tournament, and the showing we had in it was subpar but was ABSOLUTELY impacted by fatigue. That being said, we got beat. It is what it is.

He needs to get us to at least Sweet 16 first. Some guys make a name for themselves in the tournament, make it happen Trayce.

Everytime we get something going we give up some stupid crap. Close a team out for Pete's sake. -
You accept it but I have no interest in watching it. I was one of the people who went the last time we played Arkansas at home. Not doing that again. If you play the young guys like people have said, it makes sense. I just don't care enough to put any effort into the losers bracket this year.

IUBB vs Wisconsin - 02/15/22 @ 9:00 on ESPN2

Yeah, there is a whole swath of potential fans that have been lost over the past 2 decades. Too much to get their attention and watching your team lose, lose, lose just is not fun. I have told my wife several times over the years that I think we might be better. I felt we were a bit better this year and the February has happened... -

Stop watching and check the scores. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Start with the games that mean nothing against the 300 level teams we beat up on. Having kids helped me too. -

Same age and ditto. Knight got fired my senior year. We made one more run the year after I graduated and it has been a bunch of meh, Cody Zeller, and then more meh since then. -
Pamela Whitten Replaces McRobbie as IU President

Yeah, good riddance as far as McRobbie is concerned IMO. -
Happy 50th Birthday, Calbert Cheaney!

This makes me feel old. My all time favorite IU player. -
I will thoroughly enjoy watching that program fall off when he leaves. His protection from the media for the stuff that has gone on over there is second to only Wooden.

And how does that detract from my point at all? Top 10 team playing in a crappy league which ensures they get a 1 or 2 seed almost every year. They don't play anyone before the Sweet 16 basically every year. Yeah, they are good, but that garbage conference they play in is like 18 to 20 guaranteed wins every year. There is a reason they get that far every year but have zero titles. They are basically Kentucky in the old SEC on steroids. A good program that really benefits from playing no one for 2/3 of the year. Except their schedule is even worse than what UK used to play.

Top 10 team playing in a MAC level league. They probably will go undefeated eventually but to me it will not be nearly as impressive as the last few teams to do it before them. They play 5 or 6 varsity teams and then about 20 JV teams before the tournament and get rewarded with a 1 or 2 seed every year and then always choke. Good program, good team, but overrated IMO. It would be interesting to see them play in a P5 conference and see what they look like year to year. They would still do well, but I lay money the undefeated threat goes way out the door.

Yeah, maybe just some depth. We have a pretty solid roster for the majority of our minutes, it may be getting more difficult to get one of the guys higher on the wishlist because of playing time concerns. You know that TJD is penciled in for sure at one of the bigs.

As others have mentioned, you are not trading Joey Brunk for anyone. He was a free scholarship that you either used or lost. And me personally, if it was a trade between Brunk and Brooks, I would keep Brunk. I don't think that Brooks makes us demonstrably better but I do think the antics that have followed him could be a distraction. Additionally, it is not Brunk that people were talking about replacing with Brooks. It has been Hunter, Phinisee, or guys like Galloway and Leal. And those are the types you would have to have leave to make room for a guy like Brooks if he ever entered the portal. I would not make that trade, that's just me.
-
Nobody is wringing their hands over Brunk leaving. They were saying that trying to compare him leaving to trying to bump one of the players currently on the roster off the team for an unnamed, hypothetical person who hypothetically turned down the school once, hypothetically has stats at his current P5 school that are not much better than those we want to replace because "athletic and highly ranked", and maybe some other hypothetical issues. Most of us are saying you don't boot the guys being discussed here to add someone who has not shown that they are demonstrably better. That would go for any hypothetical player.

Sorry, saw this after my last post. I will drop it.

He is a 6'7" player who shot 21% from 3 last year and 44% from the field. He turned the ball over almost 2 times a game. Yes he scored 10 points and pulled down almost 7 boards but he played on a team that won 9 games. His Dad is a big mouth which can be detrimental to programs. His time is ticking away to show he is NBA ready and he knows that. Hunter has already been a role player. Hunter was worth 6 points and 3 rebounds with better 3 point percentage in 6 less minutes a game. Galloway is just getting started and had an injury hamper his freshman year and when you look at his stats, they are not much different from Brooks in his freshman year. I just am not seeing Brooks as being all that big of an add. We need guys who can space the floor and he is not that guy. This is not a huge upgrade so why push a guy out for someone whose career has been underwhelming to date?
