  1. My initial reaction to the hire was kind of...enh at best. But you know what, f it. Listening to this press conference, I like Mike. LFG.
  2. **** the Masshole. He did not want to be here. Woody did.
  3. Yeah, and from him I actually believe it. It is not just "press conference speak".
  4. Ok, have waited on this for awhile before going on initial reaction. I have my doubts but here are the things I could think of as to why this may work: 1. Woodson wants this job. It wasn't just the next available step on the career ladder. He bleeds this place, losing is going to hurt him on multiple levels. I saw there were Big Ten people laughing about the hire. Ok, saddle up Woody. You beat their @$$ as a player, time to do it as a coach. 2. NBA connection. Well covered here. 3. African American coach. Indiana (as a state) has this reputation as being a backwater that is not real minority friendly. This squashes that. Let's be real, most of the guys being recruited are going to have more in common with Woodson then they would with a white Texan. There is not another "blue blood" program doing this. 4. There are some people a little put off by this. I kind of am...BUT, if this works out, he is the type of hire that will get people back in the fold quickly. That being said, I think his most important job in the next few days is getting as many guys back out of the portal and committed to Indiana as possible and trying to convince the rest to stay. Then lwts see if we can steal a few guys. Dolson did not win the press conference. Ok. I get that. But we've been a bunch of flash and no substance for about 20 years. I want Woodson to come in and have a take no prisoners attitude. **** Goodman. **** those other Big Ten contacts the Phillip's was talking to. **** the national media who is shoveling dirt over Indiana like it is dead. IU vs. the world at this point. Screw talking, let's go to war.
  5. I'll play. Brad was on the flight from OKC. His family is on that plane from Mass getting ready to land soon. They will be finalizing the deal and staying with family around Indianapolis or something si that we can get an announcement together. Brad played cool with Boston to stick around for a few weeks, so now Boston is being cool by not leaking the info. Totes gonna be Stevens.
  6. Honestly, just the same guesses we have been hearing.
  7. Ha ha...let the craziness continue. So is Brad F---ing Stevens our equivalent of "To the moon"?
  8. The picture just relates to what happens when the Cardinals meet to pick a new Pope.
  9. That is one hire where Dolson should just hand in his resignation with it.
  10. That does not give me the warm and fuzzies.
  11. Boston seems to be on a trajectory currently that the Pacers always find themselves: a good team that is not great, is not one of the places where recruiting free agents is easy, and is always just good enough to draft in the area where a sure thing is hard to come by. Kind of like being 9-7 in the NFL. You just tend to get stuck being "ok".
  12. Also, digging more into those numbers, Indiana really lags in ticket sales and whatever the "other" category covers. However, we excel in contributions. My guess is that the ticket sales is almost completely attributable to football. If Allen keeps on the trajectory we are all hoping, I would expect ticket sales to increase. Additionally, if that occurs and we get a good basketball program up and running, I would expect to see ticket sales impacted minimally (we could charge a little more and people would be willing to pay) and if both programs are humming along, contributions should be positively impacted as well. I would rather be in Alabama's position from a revenue generation standpoint, but from an accounting standpoint, Indiana was a $30 million per year better operation than Alabama. This was in a year where IU missed the NCAA tournament and went to the Gator Bowl and Alabama played for a football national championship and went to the NIT. It just feels to me like Indiana has more room to grow revenue while not needing to increase expenses much. Alabama seems to be close to maxing their revenue and still operates at a fairly large net loss.
  13. Also, if Dolson is smart, he is going to make sure he locks up Moren. She is building something here I think and we need to make sure we keep her here. She deserves a bit of a raise (and I don't base that on one tournament run, she is on the type of trajectory you hope for when you hire a coach.)
  14. Indiana operates at a roughly $13 million surplus while Alabama operates at a loss of $20 million. Alabama may make more but they lose money every year based on what you have there. Indiana has about $13 million a year (in a normal year) to play with while Alabama would be digging a bigger hole with a larger basketball contract. So Indiana could double the salary of our basketball coach and still have an $9+ million to play with.
  15. Honestly, there are a few guys I hope we don't hire, there are a whole bunch I am unsure of, and there is a couple where I am fully on board. Enfield would be in the unsure category. Whoever gets picked I am going to have one of three feelings about the pick before moving on to "let's get to it then Coach X." The 3 reactions are going to be "ugh...not sure about that one", "ok...interesting, we have something to work with here", and "heck yes, great hire, no complaints from me". Ultimately though, all 3 of those reactions are going to end with "let's see what you got".
  16. Jeff Goodman is Miller's mouthpiece IMO.
  17. He is a multimillionaire whose job requires him to be away from home quite a bit. The kids could finish out the school year whether he had the job or not. Can coaches even personally meet with kids yet? I don't think his kids schooling would be holding them back for a few weeks. If this thing had any legs.
  18. It's nice out and the IU women are currently playing a Sweet 16 game.
  19. Metaphorically speaking or literally? ;) I think we will know next weekend. No inside info, just a hunch.
  20. So you never do 40 in a 35? Never 50 in a 45. Never get yourself up to 30 in a 25? We all drive everyday and people who do the speed limit are a rare breed. If the 5 to 10 over is to allow for calibration, then think of things the same way here. This is especially going to be true when NIL hits. It will be completely legal to funnel money to kids at that point. That is when I hope Indiana goes full dark side. If Andy Mohr wants to drop 5* recruit $500k to make commercials, more power to him. If our billionaires donors buy 100,000 jerseys at $20 a piece so that Leal and Galloway (for example) can get a piece of that $2,000,000 while on campus...have at it. NIL is going to be the wild west. Everybody is going to be getting paid.
  21. Do you speed? There is a bunch of space between going 5 to 10 over the speed limit and doing 120 on the freeway drunk and high. One of those things the cops don't even blink. The other lands you in jail. I want to do 5 to 10 over.
  22. Based off potential maybe, but actual results, he is #2 behind Franklin.
  23. Yes, national secrets are definitely at stake. You are a good man to keep that quiet. Edit: I think if you polled the people in this thread and asked them to truly say whether they thought Stevens was coming here, greater than 80% would say no. If you followed r/wallstreetbets a few weeks back, this thread is the same vibe.
