OSU scored 118 points but won by only 16, giving up 102 points to IU Indy. lmao

I hear what you're saying and I've had that same thought. However, Boise State and ASU (undeservingly) getting byes also messed up the rest of the seeding so Oregon and Georgia played better teams in the second round than they would have with proper seeding. Those two played the two teams that eventually met in the finals. I remember the discussions about how getting a 5 or 6 seed last year might be better than getting a bye. Crazy. The point is, it should be to a team's advantage to get a bye, and it should be this year.

16 wins or bust.

It's kind of crazy thinking about how IU would have a great chance to make the old 4-team playoff format. In just year 2 of Cignetti. The only tough regular season game is at PSU, which ESPN gives IU a 77.1% chance of winning. They give IU greater than 96% against Wisconsin and Purdue. The first undefeated regular season in school history would be so amazing.

Sampson was able to get a commitment from Bud Mackey, who is from Kentucky. Of course, in the end he didn't come to IU. -
Good point, but I imagine it would have to be a very big name to have that kind of pull right after being hired.

That might hurt their chances at the coach at the top of their list. Accept that job without even knowing who your boss will be? It's a great position but that might make some of the candidates think twice. Of course, worst case is they don't get along with the new boss and get fired in a few years with a huge buyout, which doesn't sound too bad to me.

By the time the team has finished playing in the CFP semifinal, most of the coaching carousel should be mostly settled, especially for schools that would hire a highly paid coach. The contract also says "good faith" which indicates that it would be the top 3 for Cignetti and top 5 (B1G)/ 10 (nationally) for the staff at the time. If others get raises after, IU still made the good faith effort which is within the terms of the contract.
-
If he does well enough in the CFP, IU will contractually obligated to make him top 3. I hope that happens. It's kind of great that IU giving Cignetti that extension upped the amount that Nebraska has to pay for a coach who isn't nearly as good.

An agreement like that is illegal. They'd then get sued for wage fixing. They don't have antitrust exemptions, nor does the NCAA, so they would lose.

247 national sports staff put in a crystal ball prediction for IU to land him with high (7) confidence. https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/vaughn-karvala-at-bella-vista-prep-339743/CurrentExpertPredictions/ -
The twitter speculation/rumor is that it's gambling related. UW says they won't comment further based on privacy laws. Temple says they won't comment because he is no longer there. He was a backup at Temple so I imagine he was just a "we have an unused scholarship so let's use it for another body" player. I read he hadn't played in their exhibition games and was practicing as part of the scout team. Won't hurt UW at all.

I don't know, I think we want players who are used to winning. ;)

In one game (Illinois, I think), Alberto didn't even throw a pass so they ran every play. They still scored 2 TD. As for the sh*t-talking/cockiness, some of what people considered to be that was saying that IU would be making the B1G Championship game and CFP. No one believed it possible so they just chalked it up to talk. Yet here we are, having already made the CFP in year 1 and look very good to make both the B1G Championship and CFP in year 2. It's not looking like sh*t-talking or cockiness now, just a great prediction.

(2027) PG - Chase Branham to INDIANA

It could be that basketball recruiting is starting to be more like football recruiting. In football, a "commitment" is essentially just who is the current leader and the players often continue to make visits. -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
The Hoosiers won both meets easily, even with some swimmers competing in the World Cup meet instead of this one and others swimming off events. Men: 199 - 101 Women: 187.5 - 112.5 https://swimswam.com/raekwon-noel-and-toby-barnett-each-win-3-events-to-help-propel-indiana-past-kentucky/ -
Seeing how they've gone about recruiting so far, I have a hard time believing that they thought they were too far behind on a 2027 recruit to catch up. More likely they saw something that made them think he wouldn't be a great fit for the program they're building.

It looks like IU is also committed to keeping him well compensated as long as he does well. If he makes the CFP Semi-finals, they'll make sure he's the 3rd (or better) highest paid coach. They've also committed to the coaching staff, keeping it top 5 in the B1G and top 10 nationally. Firing him would be very expensive, since it's not only 100% of his remaining contract but also all of the remaining retention bonuses.
