They're not. There was talk about how this season's defensive line might be more talented than last season's. And that was before Daley and Wyatt got the TRO.

Swimswam ranks the women's class 3rd. https://swimswam.com/ranking-the-2026-womens-ncaa-recruiting-classes-4-1/ Men's class 5th. https://swimswam.com/ranking-the-2026-mens-ncaa-recruiting-classes-8-5/ -
Oh, absolutely. They were the ones who profited the most off of the old model and also fought tooth and nail to avoid having the athletes be considered any kind of employee.

Forward thinking and effective governing are descriptors that have never been used for the NCAA. Too much inertia to expect a change now. They're hoping for a Bail Mary like Michigan got because that's the only way the institution will survive. Ingrained into the NCAA is the idea that everything must be at the cost of the athletes.

#1 INDIANA FOOTBALL 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
go iu bb replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
The thing about arm pits is that most people have 2. Indiana does as well. -
No, that would be a terrible thing. They should be doing it for love of the game and pretend to care about school while the coaches and all the other people associated with the sports rake in the money. That's the NCAA way.
-
I can't believe you would say that about these student-athletes. Just because most spent a ton of time working on their game, do just enough in school to stay eligible, don't mingle much with the other students, and make a ton of money playing their sport. If they were to be be regarded as semi-professional or even fully professional so much of the above would change, like the doing just enough to stay eligible would go away.
-
Interesting how that works for these student-athletes. I think we're close to the point where they'll even stop pretending.

We'll see how true Painter is to his word if he wins.

The NCAA is going to NCAA. It's what they do. This is classic NCAA.

Easy to say things like that when you know they're not coming back. It's also easy to say that about Loyer. I'd like to see him say that if Smith and/or TKR really wanted to come back and had won eligibility in court.

Considering how pessimistic you usually are about IU, I found this kind of funny. I guess you just don't like Goodman.

Yes, that is the goal. That is also why they made the changes such as removing the B Finals from the NCAA championship meet. Thankfully those are coming back but it does show that they're trying to find ways to make meets more marketable. That means more exciting and less down time. The skins and super skins events I think will be like the skins event from the ISL. A 50 yd (since this is college) race that is swum over and over eliminating swimmers each round. Think a tournament format in the pool. https://sa.swimming.org.au/swim-articles/what-skins-race -
Hoover is a very good QB. He actually has better numbers coming to IU than Mendoza had. Mendoza, however, has that intangible refusal to lose that is very rare. His preparation is top notch. During the games he just finds a way. It's what separates very good from great. Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes are two others with that attribute. I'm not sure that Hoover does. That's not a knock on him, merely an observation. I think he'll do quite well here and I agree with you that he'll end up somewhere between Rourke and Mendoza.

This is the CSL: https://swimswam.com/college-swimming-league-finalizes-12-teams-for-first-season-during-2026-2027/ -
Take out the football championship and the comment is still a very stupid one. That just takes the championship count down to 24-3 instead of 25-3.

You must be new around here. If we did pay that then the complaint becomes that we overpaid. -
That makes it sound like there were many of them. I think you mean "those few years"

(2027) - Jason Gardner Jr.

I saw on 247 that he cut his list to 8 and we're still on his top list but it seems unlikely he will end up at IU. I'm not sure why didn't just cut IU. I see he's also dropped quite a bit in the rankings. From 30ish to the 60s.
