He takes power naps in the prime seat on the bench and cashes in a $250k state salary. If I was a prof at IU making half that (about avg. for associate prof.) teaching lots of classes and working my 8$$ off on research and publishing — I would be angry as all hell! This symbolically personifies the perception of Woody’s style - leveraging the position of head coach to garner the bene’s…but not recognizing the work it takes, and the need to make adjustments to change both negative outcome and perceptions!! I’m sure Armond helped Woody out in some key way(s) during his NBA career - so fine, he’s entitled to help out a friend. Placing him so prominently in the 1A seat, while he falls asleep, seemingly contributing little else is a bad look. Sadly, those power naps are about the most consistent product that comes off the bench!!!

Excuses… 1) injuries - No X…all big level guard (lol) 2) young team, still coming together 3) just a really bad match up, sometimes that happens 4) ware and Reneau still nursing injuries 5) no one woke Armon up from his nap in time to get his invaluable strategic insight 6) woody still learning the college game, getting a leg up on that hump though…just be patient!

General Coach Candidate News
Deserthoozier replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is the key…‘don’t have a new coach lined up yet’..in this day and age, with a business that is so fundamental to IU’s identity…that is where the complete mismanagement comes in. As with any major, successful business, there should ALWAYS be multiple contingency plans — and especially when you know there is a relatively strong likelihood of failure with your current leadership. At the point you get to a search, it should almost be a mere formality — ‘I’ dotting on contract negotiations - or in the worst case, finalizing among a few choice candidates. Seems like we’re always caught w/our pants down — starting a completely ‘organic’ search, a year or so late, and millions in buyout $$ short-which concedes power and gives way to perceptions of desperation. This falls 100% on AD leadership and the president and BOD’s support for being aggressive, but strategic and stealth. We operate like it’s still the 1950’s with a lot of hope. I’m not certain how sensitive the admin is to the current situation, but the knocking on the door is deafening, and likely not going away! -

What are the chances his team has him shut it down, Vonleh style? Put on the soft boot and wait until June. -

No BARDO…always a blessing!! -
FFS, let’s go get Harbaugh!! Dude knows how to coach and compete. How much is Dolson’s buyout? His greatest attribute is shamelessly begging donors to kick in to get us out of horrible contracts. Their willingness will definitely be spent after this call to pitch in!

2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal

I think your theories are much closer to the reality of these types of situations…huge influencers with tremendous personal stakes on the line, big time $$$ from multiple interests, agents and future deal promises, coaching connections, etc. This has always happened — NIL just opened it up to let in $$$ from programs who tried to keep noses more clean…and in my view created at least the opportunity for a more level playing field. Kid was committed to Duke…and ALL that comes w/it…shoe money, agency, nba immediate exposure, family jobs, houses, the brotherhood forever, etc. The bar was set at the top from the get go…playing time scenario changed, but expectations on full market value were already set by THE industry leader (ok, arguably KY in the game, KU right there too). Now it’s a scramble to see where/who can best match all that, and also maybe feel like the right fit. We’re banking on the later, as we should against a commuter school and a desolate place in BFE Lawrence. Let’s hope we’ve got our ducks in a row on the former too…it matters…a lot! -

Remember — Langford was a super solid lean, if not lock, for Louisville, w/strong adidas backing, until they went up in flames and looked like they might be penalized w/one of their many scandals. Forget if it was the strippers, bags of cash at the 7/11, Italian restaurant post-dinner table action, or one of the others…too many to track. Aside from maybe better upfront contract cash, Adidas hasn’t delivered on brand, and all the ‘support’ that come with it, for IU like for other premier schools. Seem to be part of the problem…throwing picked over bones here and there - rather than a true partner in recruiting advocacy — which we know happens at a lot of places! -
