(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
DChoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Keion, on behalf of Hoosier fans I apologize for the fact that no one in this thread has begged you to come to IU for 24 hours. Please come to Bloomington. -
This is virtually a play-in game to have a chance to get into the tourney. Win this, endure the human sacrifice at MSU and then beat Iowa and we will start crawling back into the tourney. Based on the last 10 games I would not bet on us coming out ready to play from the start tonight but if they don’t do it, with their backs against the wall, I think we can say adios to this year.
-
It would also surprise me if he played much this year. As I mentioned during the last game....he was healthy for two games early in the season and got a DNP against Chicago State and 4 minutes against Montana State. Obviously Archie did not think Race was wearing a Superman cape on the sideline when he was healthy. Now he had been out for 10-11 weeks so, as you mention, he can’t possibly be in game shape.

I think Al is a quintessential four year player for those that want the roster to be a combo of four year players and one/two year 5 stars. He seems like a great guy, emotionally invested, cares about winning, plays as hard or harder than his teammates and has worked a lot on the areas of his game (ie shooting) that needed improvement. Hope he continues to improve and has a great career. -

He did not remember things? How many posts have claimed we were being overly cautious? Nothing better than a diagnosis from internet doctors :)

Earlier in the season I was not in the “why aren’t Moore or Jake playing” camp as I figured Archie had his reasons due to how they practiced etc. Recently, however, I have joined the “play-them” camp as the team has failed to give 40 (or 20) minutes of effort game after game after game. I think we were down 20 or so with 5 minutes to go and he still played McBob etc instead of giving those guys a few minutes. I don’t get it. You would have also thought he would have given them a few minutes in the first half just to let the starters know he was pissed that they decided to sleep-walk again at the start of the game. -
I think disappointment, rather than firing him, is a more accurate description of some in the fan base. At this point it would be hard to say we have been “pleasantly surprised” with the progress/results.

Prediction League (Game 20 - Michigan 1/25/19)

IU 71 UM 67 It’s a Xmas miracle in late January...... -
That game really jacked up my expectations. Seems like a long time ago. I had forgotten that we won without Green or McBob being able to play.
-
Glad Race is feeling better and hope he has a great career. That being said, Race was around for two games prior to his injury that consisted of a DNP against Chicago State and 4 minutes against Montana, which indicates he was not “ready” for minutes then, and he has subsequently been out for 10 weeks. I highly doubt he starts and hope the posters do not have unrealistic expectations. Hope he does great but not holding my breath.

My kids also mock me. Call IU the Loosiers, ask if we will ever be in a final four again. One joked that he has doubts that man landed on the moon or that IU has really won championships, etc. -
And just not drugs. There would be 10 keg parties in the dorm lounges, 100+ kids in the hallways with plastic cups full of beer and nothing would be done. Foster, McNutt, Wright and Willkie has a ton of parties.
-
That would have made a huge difference and would particularly opened up things for Romeo, Morgan and Smith.
-
That is correct. Several players claimed Butch spilled the beans. In any case their behavior was not exactly a hidden secret. At parties I personally witnessed team member or members (chose wether or not to believe me but I am not going to name names) partaking. In those days, for those that were not alive, the hallways of some of the dorms smelled like the headquarters of the Mexican cartel. Looking back it is rather amazing how open/prevelant things were. Within several years the administration really cracked down on the dorms.

Every and any coach would have been given a pass and not fired those first three years. -
I was at IU when that happened and we thought the official explanations were funny/bs. We certainly could have been wrong but it was “interesting” that role players Baker/Cox/Roberson were kicked off while stars Woodson/Tolbert/Turner were suspended.

Context on the first 2 seasons of a few top cbb coaches
DChoosier replied to ViaSwiss's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It’s fair to “judge” or comment that it is disappointing that we often do not show up for the start of a game and/or only play hard 10-20 minutes a game after 1 1/2 years. I don’t care what system it is or that his mystical defense apparently takes 3 years to learn (on a side note does that also mean incoming freshman will not know the defense until they are seniors?)......get the guys to play hard and consistently show effort. I say this in the context of really, really wanting him to succeed. -
Yes he did agree to abide by the rules and is paying the consequences. You mention the Crean gift but, not that is makes it right, weed has been an issue with every IU coach since, and including, Knight.
