2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
DChoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Archie makes the most money in Bloomington. The “walking boot of doom” salesperson makes the second most. -
Not really. Good to get the win but EIU lost to mighty Chattanooga last week by two touchdowns and that same Chattanooga team lost to Jacksonville State 41-20 today. EIU redefines the term cupcake but nonetheless it is a “W” when it comes to becoming bowl eligible. I’m very glad we convincingly won but am not sure that it really proved anything.

I wasn’t even responding to you ??

And then we ended the season scoring 3 points in the first five minutes of the OSU BTT game, A game widely thought to be a NCAA tourney play-in game but we came out slow and Romeo, in his post game interview, stated they just did not come out with energy......in a game to get into the tourney !?!?!?!?!?
-
We fell behind early a lot. As an example this is an early January article from the IDS. https://www.idsnews.com/article/2019/01/iu-mens-basketball-continues-string-of-slow-starts-in-loss-to-michigan

I wish and hope the Archie has great success, and am fully aware that these pre-season tourney projections are worthless, but if you told me a few years ago that going into his third season we would be “hoping” to beat out Illinois or Penn freaking State to get into the tourney I would have laughed out loud. This upcoming season is really difficult to figure out (a whole lot of if’s) but I can’t wait for it to start.

Thomas Bryant - Cleveland Cavaliers

Good for Thomas. Time to re-read some of the “he made a mistake by leaving” posts :) -
(2020) WR David Baker to IU
DChoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Nice to see he had offers from Purdue, UM and Iowa. Always good to have 6’2” receivers and land some of the better in-state kids. -
Ed Schilling Leaving, Mike Roberts Arriving

We should reach out to Landers mom to see if she is interested. -
(2019) SG Lester Quinones to Memphis
DChoosier replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
On one hand I want us to “get old”, and see players develop as they become juniors and seniors, but on the other hand I was disappointed in his freshman year shooting and defense. I realize that is a very contradictory position . -

Is it really good for a team to depend on Hunter Thompson? He was quite the partier. -

I sure hope your right. At this point it seems it is TBD. -
(2020) PG Ethan Morton to Purdue
DChoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
No way to know but I don’t think Archie made another home visit to tell him we lost interest. There could be a million scenarios. Maybe Morton was concerned about being behind Rob for two years, maybe he liked the other teams offensive schemes more, who knows. -
Thanks for pointing that out. As you noted their spacing etc looked good and Leal in particualr made some nice passes. I realize it is a highlight clip but man, Lander is athletic. Getting those three would be a Hoosier dream come true :)
-
I hope we get Galloway. In the Indy Star article the dad also seemed to like PU, in addition to IU, a fair amount.

(2020) PG Ethan Morton to Purdue
DChoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
According to the Pittsburgh paper Archie had another home visit with Morton a little over a week ago. Morton is a PG while Leal and Galloway are SG’s. The staff worked hard to get Morton. I think we just plain lost, which happens in recruiting, rather than backed off. -
Recruiting.

I like the Villanova model. This year they have the 4th rated class with two 5 stars (and two 4 stars) and last year they had the 9th rated class with one 5 star (and three 4 stars) :) -
I’d like to know their criteria. No UVA, NYU, Michigan or MIT. San Jose State, Fairfield and Richmond are ranked higher than UPenn... LOL.

(2019) SG Lester Quinones to Memphis
DChoosier replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Many good points but to me he does not seem to be intentionally following point 1 as he has offered a dozen guards (landing Franklin) and seemed pretty intent on using the scholarships. Even though his”win-rate” for guards has been poor this year I’m glad he hasn’t gotten so desperate to fill the vacancies “no matter what” by going the Galon etc route. -

Yep, Wat reached out when everything was blowing up (Bama fired Johnson, Wade cheating comes out, Duke shuffling around but they were also going after Hurt, etc) and we probably looked like a good back-up/emergency/insurance plan. The fact that he has not found the time for an official visit tells you all you need to know. I have no idea but would bet he ends up at Bama as he seems to like the new coach and the PG stayed. Memphis is on the verge of getting a ton of talent but I would bet that he does not want to share the ball/limelight with 4 other guys. -
Potentially lying to save your own skin is one thing but there are many comments made on tapped phones in which people were not saving themselves (ie, they did not know they were being recorded, or testifying to save themselves, when they implicated Miller). In regards to part of your point, however, there are no recordings of Sean himself saying things or players directly implicating Sean. He seems guilty as hell, and the program is filthy, but he still might skate. All we can do is step aside and watch the NCAA go after Cal Poly of Southeastern Fresno for providing one extra meal a month.

I did not expect the return to former glory. I did expect a team, in year two, to play hard in more than half their games. You can call us headed towards “hot garbage” but a team that beat MSU twice and had Romeo/Morgan should not have slept walked through half the season and lost 11/12. I’m pulling for Archie and hope that in year 10 we say “boy those first two years we tough but now we have it rolling”. Not sure why saying this year was a disappointment seemingly always leads to “why do you want to fire Archie” or “what did you expect” type comments.
