Game Thread: @Maryland 10/30 - Noon - BTN

I think the MSU game just absolutely sucked the remaining life out of this team. 2-10 seems nearly inevitable. -

That looks to be his personal account. If the program posted that to celebrate him, fine, but him posting it himself the day after an embarrassing beatdown….not a good look in my opinion. -

Wow this is so incredibly lame of him to post. This makes me think of teams back in the Bill Lynch years and before when we’d get a tackle for loss or something in the 4th quarter when down 30 and the guy making the tackle would celebrate like it was actually a huge play. Just oblivious. -

I thought we were changing what IU football is about? Look I don’t think any realistic IU fan would be unhappy with results like the past 2 seasons. Hell if you told me the next 10 years of IU football would be between 5-7 and 7-5 and we’d win 3 or 4 bowl games in there I’d say sign me up! But it’s not unreasonable to have expected far better than what we’ve seen this year based on what we returned from a historically successful team. -

Well damn. Of course it was the best non COVID season we’ve had in a million years. Imagine if we had both in year 3 right now? -

Imagine if we had just one year with both at the coordinator positions. I thought we had one but it looks like Wommack was only LB coach the one year DeBoer was here. We can’t have nice things. -

As if that wasn’t cruel enough that last FG lost me a bet on the under along with a 4 game parlay. -

Welp this one might over already. My only comment is that it’s the prime time game in ABC and we can’t even get a unique jersey combo? A different helmet design? Let’s shake it up!! -
My apologies to Coastal. I bet on them which made an App State win an absolute sure thing.

Remaining 2021 Season Predictions
NashvilleHoosier replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
To play this dose of reality we are getting this season out a little further, I did some quick math on our wins/losses since the beginning of the 2019 season. Our combined record in those 2.5 seasons: 16-11 (for IU football, remarkable) Against opponents who ended w/ a losing record: 15-0 Against opponents who ended w/ a winning record: 1-11 (Wisconsin who ended 4-3 last season) Combined record of the 16 teams we beat: 42-104 I'm not even trying to pile on. This is just some additional perspective. I for one so badly wanted to believe that IU football has changed. In some ways it certainly has. I'm still happy we had the last 2 seasons. I love that our culture has changed (though culture doesn't shine through as much when you're losing). I love that our recruiting has improved. But has IU football really changed that much? Probably not. -
Remaining 2021 Season Predictions

No but we also didn’t beat a single team with a winning record that year and choked away the chance at a bowl win. By IU football standards, a successful season. Don’t get me wrong with our history, I’m still happy with the past 2 seasons. But there were so many factors that made last season unlike any other. We benefited from it. Yet we weren’t able to carry any momentum forward even though we returned a ton of starters/production. If last season were a normal year I think we are probably another decent team, 7-5 ish. Not a fringe top 10 team fighting for a NY6 bowl. So, my opinion, last season was a fluke. -

Last season was definitely a fluke. I think we had the perfect culture to weather that storm, among other things. Back to reality this season. I haven’t enjoyed watching IU football this little in quite some time. I’ll continue to hope we can get to 6 wins but my gut says we only get 1 more. -
Remaining 2021 Season Predictions

We’ve been to 2 straight January Florida bowl games, recruiting continues to improve, and the image/brand of IU football is better than it’s been in who knows how long. Underachieving this season will not warm up Allen’s seat at all I’m my opinion. He’s safe for at least 3 more seasons. -
IUBB 2021 General Off-Season Thread

I definitely took it as option #1. There were a couple other times Trayce and Race started laughing to each other when Woody was talking. -
I get that. It’s a 9 inning game not a 7 inning game. But back to a previous point, it’s a series based game, not a winner take all based game, yet we have the 1 game WC. But it’s also a very slow paced game, which in this day and age is a huge turn off. In my opinion MLB could benefit from adding more 2 game 7 inning double headers to the schedule. I thought they were fantastic last season, and much easier to keep someone’s attention for that amount of time. Keep the same number of games but shorten the season by a week or more. Expand the playoffs to 8 teams, division winners are top 3 seeds w/ next 5 best records filling out the bracket. Sure some pretty mediocre teams are going to make the playoffs. But if the season calendar is shortened b/c of the double headers, it would simply replace the last week or more of mediocre or bad teams playing meaningless games (or the best teams who have already clinched playing meaningless games) with another week or more of high stakes and meaningful baseball games. And you still get end of season playoff chases. Overall, more time for fans to watch meaningful baseball. Please, don’t everyone recommend me for commissioner at once. This is the part where I don’t comment on chipper’s career most definitely not ending b/c of that call. And I also don’t say that it was indeed a poor decision to call an infield fly there but if he doesn’t call it, Kozma just catches the ball b/c the umpire making the call is what Kozma thought was Holiday calling him off. If he doesn’t hear that (I.e. if the call isn’t made) he doesn’t back off, catch made. :-)

I say make it a 3 game series over 2 days but day 1 is a two 7 inning game double header. You get to carry 1 extra pitcher and 1 extra position player that day. If game 3 is necessary it’s winner take all the following day. It could be fascinating to see how day 1 plays out, matchups managers go for, etc. And regardless it’s either 14 innings of teams deciding who is better or a draw that leads to the winner take all game. And I also agree on reseeding. No way the Dodgers should have had to play in that game last night. The biggest problem in doing that is there will inevitably be teams who get rewarded by having a slightly better record playing in a weak division over a better team who plays in a tough division but finished a game or two worse record-wise.

One of the best things about soccer is knowing exactly how much time you'll need to dedicate. Speaking of DVRing, now that I think about it, I set the game to record last night but only put an hour extension on it. I would have gotten 4 hours in only to realize it didn't capture the last inning. I would understand that if it were a 13 inning game.

I love it and hate it at the same time. The win or go home baseball game is the best and most interesting baseball game. But when everything else about baseball is based on a series, it doesn't make much sense to have a one game elimination with such high stakes. A 3 game WC series would still be great. That said, the Cards were a week plus removed from the win streak. Given the choice of trying to beat the Dodgers in a 3 game series on the road, or 1 game w/ Waino on the mound, I'm taking the chance at the single elimination. Other things I'm pouting about: Reyes was the absolute last pitcher I wanted to see on the mound in a high leverage situation. 0-11 w/ RISP.....oof. Nearly 4.5 hours for a 9 inning game that produced 2 runs until the last swing of the bat is entirely unacceptable.

Just got offered a free ticket to Dawes at the Ryman tonight. I’m incapable of making this decision on my own. Tell me what to do. -
I’m just hoping that this is an indication that we can totally beat Maryland on the road.
