So what exactly does this mean? I'd never heard the name Bill Comar until a couple of weeks ago. What exactly will Matta's role be responsible for? He can't recruit and I thought I also read that he isn't allowed to be involved coaching in practice. I'm convinced that Matta being there is a good thing, I just don't yet know why (hah!). Helping navigate NCAA rules? Advising on recruiting? I'm sure he's got some long standing recruiting relationships what will be helpful. What else?

I don't know the answer to that. But I've lived in the south for 14 years now and I'm pretty confident saying that spring football practice will be as much of a topic on local sports radio this week in Alabama as the basketball team playing in the sweet 16 and possibly elite 8.

I can assume this is all coaches/staff across all sports right? I'd bet the majority of that overall difference is in our respective football coaching/staff salaries. I'd imagine Bama will match any offer. It would have to come down to something other than money (i.e. midwest ties? wanting to be at a basketball school?), as mentioned in my other post.

This is a good point I hadn't really thought of. But I suppose this is also where booster money comes in. If boosters are picking up the tab on the coach's salary, I'm sure Bama will match the offer. That said, I don't understand NOT pursuing top coaches just b/c there is a good chance their current school tries to keep them. So.....make them do it. Nate Oats has no ties whatsoever to Alabama or the south in general. Sure he can have a ton of success there, and basketball can be important there. But it will always be overshadowed by football. He may get a matched offered from Bama but still want to get back to the midwest and be at a basketball school. Maybe we miss, but I say we have to take a swing.

You can respect what Bobby accomplished here and not worship him. I fall squarely in that camp. I'm sure I'm considered woke by people who get far too uptight about what they consider to be woke. But not worshiping Bobby doesn't make one holier than thou.

Yeah, it could be that. It's why I said connected to the Stevens side "in some way". He/she is consistent, and defiantly certain that Stevens isn't coming. Surely that is not simply based on what Stevens said in a press conference. So I assume his/her info is coming from the Stevens side....how close we won't know and I'd never expect him/her to reveal that.

I would hope it's even higher than that. We aren't crazy for having hope, but I think we are generally realistic. Yet until a different coach is announced, and as long as we have good folks like Chris saying it may not be dead, and of course Jerry droppin' in with a Yeag-a-bomb here and there, we can keep a little hope alive. Seems like Chris and Jerry Yeags are connected to the IU side with some positive vibes. Seems fairly clear that Nonymouse is connected in someway to the Stevens side. What are ya gonna do? Of course, keep a little hope alive until Scott makes an announcement otherwise.

Yes, as a follicly-challenged 38 year old who doesn't look a day older than 46, I get quite frustrated when I find out someone who has been shaving their head for years could actually be taking advantage a full blown mop. Don't waste that.

Chris has earned plenty of cred and a little leeway around here. He brings a lot of good info that the board appreciates, and has said plenty of times that he just knows people that know things so he passes it along as he hears it. It's a free board and people can take it how they want. I think it's been pretty clear that this round of Stevens info is part fun, part maybe yeah sort of, and part hope.

Oh get over it. They post his email address publicly on their website. I can't speak for anyone else but I emailed him in a joking manner which included an offer for him to give me a call to chat through my thoughts on the next coach which I obviously know he will not do. If they aren't expecting emails, don't put email addresses out there.

I did offer a belated congratulations on his promotion to Dir. of Athletics before I launched in so I buttered him up really good. I kept it concise but I offered him my cell number in case he wanted to chat through my thought process. No call yet but.....oh.....wait....hold on....phone's ringing.....812 number....gotta go.......

Good news everyone. Scotty responded to my request. And though he’s not directly committing, I think it’s pretty safe to say Nate Oats is on his way. This was definitely not a canned response from an intern.

Hah! I wasn't saying he/she has been more consistent than others. We all love you here Chris!! Only saying Nonymouse has been consistent in their Stevens isn't coming stance. For my mental sanity, I need to believe that.

If anyone has been consistent it’s been @Nonymouse. I don’t even care if he/she has sources, I need the consistency in my brain that Brad isn’t coming. Never ever. No chance at all. If we adopt this mindset...hell if Brad sticks his head out the window driving down 37 one day then we got closer than we expected.
