Yeah I’m going off of what someone else said in this thread that Pat didn’t hold as much of a fridge as his old man did. Who knows. Edit: Fridge? I have no idea how big the fridge is the Bobby holds. But I hope the grudge Pat holds is inside that fridge and isn’t coming out.

I feel like it was said on this board a while back that Beard and Pat knight are actually really close friends. So regardless of what Bobby may have led Beard to believe, his friendship with Pat may outweigh it. Not exactly sure who said that here. Does that ring a bell to anyone else?

I have concerns about Beilein but I will take him a million times out of a million over Alford.

General Coach Candidate News
NashvilleHoosier replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I agree, it's still a great job. And to be clear, I never thought Stevens saying no had much to do with it. More so our all out eggs in one basket pursuit of Stevens. I know its common to have a top target in a search like this. Maybe the way we pursued Stevens isn't any different that most coaching searches. I don't know. I don't want to beat a dead horse with this. I feel better about it today not that I've had ample time to pout :-). It also helps that nobody has agreed with me so far. -

Doesn't matter where it came from, it was there, and that is more accessible than message board stuff. And when I say national media, I mean in the college basketball world, not CNN of course. Hell, PTI did a segment on Stevens being connected to IU, another ESPN show did. Titus did a whole podcast on it. Goodman, of course, talked about it in many podcast segments. It wasn't front page sports news, but people in college hoops circles were well aware of it. Agents of coaches who may be interested were going to have a pulse on it. I realize my theory fall under that category of expecting the worst. And I'm happy to be wrong. I just don't think it's that far-fetched of a thought. -

So far nobody has really agreed with me. Which is making me feel better. I’ll back a few steps away from the ledge. -

One thing we haven’t even addressed which is really important....Dunkin Donuts is trash. Maybe if you’re from there and don’t know any better you like it. But no one lives the majority of their life somewhere else where there are respectable donut options and likes Dunkin’ Donuts. It was scripted. -

See my other post. It’s not just chatter here. There were plenty of national media talking about the possibility of BS coming to IU. Plenty of social media chatter. People in college hoops circles (like coaches agents) will be well aware. -

I get what people are saying but this isn’t the scenario. It would be more like you wanted to apply for the job but they didn’t let you b/c the one the wanted was the other person. All the employees of the company were ecstatic about this other person coming and made it known. A bunch of industry folks were talking about this other person coming to to take the job. The company and its employees were all in on the other person. The other person didn’t take it. You are extremely successful at your current job and compensated very well. Your coworkers love you and don’t want you to leave. Your company performs better than the other one. Is the other job as attractive as you thought it was? -
Candidate Thread: Nate Oats (Alabama)
NashvilleHoosier replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Even with his raise he makes $3.225M/year. We could offer $4.5M and pay the $12M buyout and in 6 years we’d have spent less than we would have on BS. Not saying we should, but I do like this guy. The BS scenario seems to suggest that an Oats $$ package isn’t as big of a deal than we thought. -

Phew. Good call for TTU to put that in there. -

Am I seeing correctly that his buyout is $15M+? Is the second philanthropic donor in for that? -

It may not. I hope it doesn’t. But it wasn’t just message board chatter. Plenty is social media chatter with national media chiming in. Any other coach’s circle will be aware that we put all our eggs in the Stevens basket. They may not care. But if I’ve got things going at another school, I’d be hesitant to take over a place that I know everyone wanted someone else to that degree. -

My biggest fear now is that going all in on BS (which I’m glad we gave it a shot) ends up backfiring with other candidates. Anybody connected with basketball has watched this play out to some extent. It’s no secret our choice was Brad Stevens and the entire fan base was behind it. Will other top coaches who may have had interest now hesitate knowing they are at best the distant second choice and that they’ll never be Brad Stevens? -

If looking in the mirror matters, sure. But if Stevens doesn't come, he was right and he wins. If he doesn't, he gave himself an out with his wording and he's got tons of IU fans giving him clicks and attention, which is also a win. -

Goodman is playing the game. He's worded things in a way now that he can easily say this was so tight-lipped nobody knew. But he knows who is paying attention....Indiana fans. He does a thing every once in a while where he rates the most annoying fanbases. The best way to get a bunch of people running to comment at you and get yourself a bunch of attention is to tell an entire fanbase they are annoying. If he's right, he's right and he wins. If he's wrong, he can just say nobody knows and he'll have tons of IU fans crushing him on twitter, then we become one of his most annoying fanbases, which keeps us coming. Goodman gets his attention and clicks, he wins. -

Not quite. Brad Stevens is our new Men's Golf coach. So we still got him....I guess. -

If the 3pm thing came from a former player who no one is sure quite how well connected they are (I feel like this was mentioned) and many former players have heard 3pm, it seems like the many former players source could be that one former player who no one is sure how connected they are. I'm not going crazy, you're going crazy. -

This always bugs me too, but has anyone ever thought how weird it is that (get ready for this doozy of a sentence) we are the only state university that puts the word "university" after the state when the word "state" is not in the university name? I.e. Every other state's universities use the naming convention of University of Michigan and Michigan State University, for example. Can't think of any other state that does it the way Indiana University does. We are special. Also, this is not for this thread. But I've already typed it. Mods should delete. -

I don't either, only that he/she doesn't appear often, but comes with what appears to be very solid info. If anyone is keeping a mental bank of "stop scrolling" posters for these really long threads, add Jerry to your list. -

We all seem to be overlooking some nice little nuggets from JerryYeagley. I haven't been as active on this board until this past season but the little I've seen him (or her) post, it seems to always carry a lot of weight. He dropped a tasty little bomb around midnight last night, that I stumbled upon in my 3:51am stupor. Kudos to Chris, IUwins, and Jerry for their willingness to share. -

It’s 3:51 in the AM. My daughter woke up scared of the dark. After putting her back to bed I laid here for 20 minutes telling myself specifically not to pick up my phone. Yet here I am. Shame on you all again! I’m definitely not sleeping now!! -

At this point we'd all probably take him only committing to coaching 90% of our games and the rest were on us.... -

This did make me think that if this all goes down, there will be a lot of new Hoosier fans welcomed into this world about 9-10 months from now.
