IU at Purdue - 03/05/22 @ 2:00 on ESPN
NashvilleHoosier replied to Hoosier Guy's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah I think what I really mean by that is I can’t believe he’s not far more dominant at that size. He’s a soft 7’4” 280 or whatever he is. -

Nobody can convince me that Edey is a D1 player for any other reason that his size. If he’s 6’8” 220, he’s a D3 player. -

X should have just shot the open shot instead of waiting to try to draw the foul. Though it’s almost unfair to pick on that since he’s the only reason we are in this game. -

Yeah I’ll give X credit. He pretty consistently brings it. Even the announcers are talking about him being the only one doing anything now. -

Do any of the players care? I honestly can’t tell. Maybe I’m just not noticing b/c I was already convinced we’d lose by 35. -
Bracketology and Team Resumes
NashvilleHoosier replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah that makes a ton of sense, considering in an earlier post you said there should be some standards. So apply the standard of looking at the entire body of work….sometimes. For some teams. Then for other teams we will apply the partial body of work. So the standard will be the entire body of work except when it’s not the entire body of work. I’ve actually been a big fan of the 60% body of work rule where teams get to choose which 60% of their body of work the committee looks at. For example, and completely hypothetical situation here, if a team were to end up, say, 18-12 or something like that…again, completely hypothetical….that team could choose which 18 games the committee evaluated them on. It makes a ton of sense really. -

NET isn't the only thing the committee looks at. Not sure what to say, but after many rounds on this argument, you sure make a heck of a case for looking at the entire body of work. -

So if you're going to lose, make sure you lose non-conference games? Losing doesn't matter you say, but you're also dismissing Iowa St.'s wins, so winning also doesn't matter? Unless it happens at the end of the season, so only certain kinds of winning matters? I mean that does match the logic of only certain losing matters. What should matter? Just conference records? What if Iowa St. had lost their first 11 conference games, then won the last 7. Does that make their conference record more worthy b/c they won those games at the end of the season? Seems like your argument boils down to....nothing matters, except for the things that kind of do, except when they shouldn't. Which quite frankly, tracks. -
What would be worse is if you missed any deadline to buy through IU at face value, then let a buddy talk you into buying way too expensive not terrible but not great tix on the secondary market after a day of hittin the sauce b/c your wife, also on the sauce, gave the thumbs up. Can you imagine? Hah! That would totally suck if that happened to someone. It didn’t happen to me. That wasn’t me. it was me. That’s what I did. We’re gonna win the whole damn thing.

There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Not producing on the court can make confidence come across as arrogance. Producing allows you to push that confidence line a bit further toward arrogance. I don’t want a roster full of arrogant kids. I just want some dudes. Killer instinct and not afraid to go out after a game where we actually performed in the clutch and say “yeah we planned on coming in to their house and shoving it down their throat.”

Good for Harper making those shirts. He's made his share of big shots. Geo Baker had a comment after the game something like "our mindset was to go out there and ruin their senior night." And he goes out and makes big plays in the clutch. Good for him. Killer instinct, mentally tough. Johnny Davis' quote about IU being TJD and not much else...unfortunately he's not really wrong. I'm sure it seemed like a disrespectful quote to many. That's fine. He's got killer instinct too. Good for him. I for one can't wait until we have guys like this on our roster, willing to chat some $hit and and more importantly go out and back it up.

Accept NIT or Decline Invitation?
NashvilleHoosier replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Having to ask this question, and any thought of not accepting, regardless of the reason why, implies that this program is above or too good for the NIT. Yet we’ve continually proven we aren’t. We can’t have that little self awareness can we? Suck it up and go try to win the NIT. Someone can think all day they are good enough and deserving of a better job, but if their experience, skills, and most of all performance continually prove otherwise, then they aren’t. Should they pass up the job they are qualified for? Or take it and get back to work figuring out ways to prove they are worthy of the better job? -
Bracketology and Team Resumes
NashvilleHoosier replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Cherry on top of the pile of doo doo we left on the floor last night....ND falls to a Q2 win. St. John's only moves up 1 spot still barely hanging on to being a Q2 win, and Rutgers moved up to the very last spot to be a Q2 loss. So it's not crazy that Rutgers could sneak into the field but drop a spot or 2 giving is a quad 3 loss on our way down the crapper. It's just the way it is for this program. -

Unfortunately the highest probability scenario is #2. Second highest probability is #3. So, extremely high probability that we fall somewhere between sweating it out and just out. -
So many disgusting and inexcusable things but what bothers me most is when winning time came, a program like Rutgers can come into our place and shove it down our throat. Their players looked like they wanted it more at the end and looked like they knew they were going to win. And not a single person is surprised it happened. I'll never walk away from this program. But I'm not sure how to accept that we are who we are. At the moment, a total has-been middle of the road, just meh. And my hopes of that changing are on life support.

I didn’t realize all the impact on our resume tonight. Our game of course or nothing else may matter. But ND with a tough road game and St. John’s w/ Xavier at home. I keep repeating this but man I cannot wait for times where we aren’t looking around at what everyone else is doing.
