Wisconsin at Indiana Game Thread - ESPN - 9:00pm
JaybobHoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Why just happened?! Talk about cheering for joy one second, then the world is ending the next. Regardless, a win is a win and will take it! Loved the teams overall effort (minus the terrible lineup that let Wisconsin in it, the the main lineup who played so flat right after), especially on the defensive side. Our offense was better overall, and it’s amazing how the offense opens up when we hit some 3’s. What guts by Davis for fighting through being sick, and Race defending Happ with missing so much time. Just think how good not just this team but how good Race would be if not for that concussion?! Very proud of this team. Win out (doable) and take 1 or 2 games in the BTT then that puts us on the bubble with our resume. I don’t see it, I see this team a strong contender in the NIT, but from what this team has come back from is great to watch. I feel this could have been a top 20 team of Davis, Rob, and Hunter we’re fully healthy at least most of the season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

That seems to be the biggest hurdle, parents wanting him to go to UK to be a one-and-done. While it didn’t hurt with Romeo, Archie needs to have NBA developing success to consistently bring in top talent, especially in-state. Really, really hope Brooks comes to IU. I have no insider info about his decision, but I worry he will be a Wildcat. Come on Archie, bring this one home! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Very excited for the game, but Wisconsin is one team I dread facing even though I want to beat them so badly each time. I can’t stand Wisconsin, so freaking annoying, and even though they aren’t a rival I hate losing to them more than anyone other than Purdue. Hope we can get to the rim for good shots via Romeo, Morgan, Rob, Al, and DeRon. Need to attack and not settle for forced unless at the end of the clock. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Indiana at Iowa Game Thread: 2/22 - 9:00pm - FS1
JaybobHoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I am overall pleased with the performance of our Hoosiers last night. They fought hard, executed better than usual, and just played a better brand of IU basketball that we can all get behind. My two biggest issues with IU last night were: free throws and jacking up long range shots for not reason. I’m probably the most frustrated with the refs last night, they were awful, especially in the 2nd half/OT. Positives: - IU survived the first half with limited minutes from Morgan and Davis. - Rob and Fitz playing their best games in awhile. - While Iowa missed some open shots, IU’s defense was excellent. Those are just some off the top of my head. Also, Rob’s defense on Bohanan was incredible. When he went out with an injury in OT that put the nail in the coffin for us. I am very pleased with the overall play, and am encouraged going forward! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
I must be out of touch, what's up with the story about a locker room fight? Saw that in one of the posts in this thread. I have felt that Green and Smith would be gone anyway, regardless of what people are saying about them being cancers on the team. These two just seem to greatly struggle with this system, and I think it's best for both parties to look elsewhere.

JaybobHoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I watched one of AssemblyCall's podcasts on Monday, and they said there are several sources who say Keion absolutely wants to go to IU, but his parents and family want him to go to UK, which is why UK seems to be in the driver's seat. I'm still holding out hope, and of course we would take Keion with open arms, but if we miss, I really hope Archie and company get in 2 pure shooters in 2019's class. -
Random Archie/Basketball Talk
JaybobHoosier replied to Walking Boot of Doom's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hey All, had to take a little break. I’m an emotional fan during the games. And with the way the team has been playing, I felt it best to take a break. I love my Hoosiers, always will, but it’s a struggle watching games this year with some of the lack of effort. I just don’t get this team at all. We’ve seen they can beat most teams in college basketball, but just refuse to go out there and give it there all. Anyway, I will be watching Saturday, but just really hope to see a MSU type effort. I don’t expect a win every time, but expect 100% heart and effort. There’s no excuse not to do that! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Inclined to Give Archie a Break
JaybobHoosier replied to Bigred3588's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You definitely said it way better than I could lol. With Moore, Anderson, and Forrester (forgot about him:(), they just need to work on being more comfortable and getting used to the speed. When they play, you can tell they really struggle with the speed of the game. If Moore could just move his feet faster, he would get a lot more time on the floor. That will come, but it gets him out of position on defense. He has a lot of potential as a good role player, just needs to get up to speed. To me, Smith is probably the most frustrating player to watch. In terms of potential, he is probably only behind Romeo on this team, he can just flat be a darn good ball player if he would just be confident. I think he is a decent shooter and overall player right now, but his confidence is so low. I also don't think it helps, just my opinion, that he feels the ball has to always go to Romeo and Juwan. Of course it should, but I mean in more of a smart playmaking area, if that makes any sense. He is so passive at times that he makes bad judgements. I have no doubt Justin can be a 12p and 7r average guy, and that's what this team really needs from him. Get garbage buckets because he is a good rebounder, and attack/shoot when appropriate. -

JaybobHoosier replied to Bigred3588's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree and that's probably to biggest disappointment. We are a talented team and is underachieving badly. We beat very good teams in Marquette and Louisville, and they are both now in the top 25. That wasn't a fluke, this team has it in them every night to do that, but it's choosing not to and it's so difficult to watch. I don't blame Coach Miller a lot, but he does need to change things up because this team just isn't getting it. I say start benching starters right now. We are losing anyway, and it's time to start sending a message that the lack of effort and heart will never be tolerated. Doesn't matter if you play bad, but play bad with everything you got because the more you get down on yourself on the court, the more you let your teammates down. I highly doubt Coach Miller will bench some starters, but something needs to be changed to try and reach these guys. -

I agree completely. I know I get very frustrated and overract, but the majority of this team doesn't seem to mesh well with Archie's style of play. I do fault Archie some, but most of this is by far on the players. I've been in Archie's shoes (not near his level, but very competitive youth baseball), it's so frustrating when the team has so much potential, but for some reason it just doesn't click. Luckily for me, my team turned around an 0-7 start to finish t-1st. The team finally clicked and every team was doomed that we came acrossed. I agree with how I want the IU program built. It's nice getting some 1-and-done's, but I want a lot of the 3 and 4* talent that is needed to have as upperclassmen. Get the top talent when you can, but you can't sacrifice getting those lower rated guys that will contribute in years 2-4. Like a lot of fans right now, it's very irritating and hard to watch this team right now. Do I want Archie Miller tossed, heck no, but I am a little concerned because of this team. It was a little gamble getting him anyway, but I think next year will be the year he's most under a microscope if things don't go well. Two top recruiting classes back to back. However, I am looking for to next season if it looks like this: Starters: Trayce, Keion, Justin, Rob, and Al. Having DeRon, Race, Jerome, Clifton, Demezi, and Armaan on the bench seems like a very deep and balanced team. I am leaving Devonte off the list, I am curious if he will be around next season (I've heard nothing, just pure speculation at this point). I will always support my Hoosiers (unless there's a Pitino/Louisville type issue) regardless of how frustrated the team plays. Just tired of not seeing the boys giving all out heart efforts. -
Devonte Green is definitely a very frustrating player. He is very talented with his on the ball defense and offensive capabilities, but his selfishness with the ball is what really hurts him. He forces shots or passes because he tries to drive in traffic then gets jammed up. If he goes with a team first mentality then it would make a world of difference. He helps the team, but equally hurts us when he gets into his selfish mode. Verses Jones is another, but also feel like he gets a lot of unnecessary negativity. He was someone that was brought here in the worst time, and felt he was tasked to do way more than he was able to. No offense to Verdell, but he should of been a bench player on a normal Indiana type team, but he was needed to be much more than what he should have been. The frustration with me is because of his constant holding onto the ball at the top of the key for almost 20 seconds. That was beyond frustrating! Hanner was another one. So much athleticism, but could really do much else besides jump. Didn’t really improve much in his time here. Pritchard is another. He did well his freshman year, but seemed to really regress every year after that. Struggled to even make layups. We really needed him to backup Zeller and he was a bust. Never really got Pritchard. Those are what I can remember at this time. Probably the biggest one was Bracey Wright. My goodness was that a terrible time with IU. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Just saw this on Twitter. I feel he has been the missing piece to helping this team with his scoring/versatility. Will be curious if he actually plays this year, because with the season so far along, would it be wise to have him start playing immediately in such a good BigTen?! Just happy to see him out on the court playing the game he loves. Can’t wait to see him play! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I know I'm late to the party here, but I made sure and texted Natty once I got the notification lol. I do want to thank Coach DeBord for all his time here and his commitment to the program. With that said, I'm very happy that a change is coming with the offense. The offense needs a fresh mind to lead it, and I think this will help get IU to a bowl game next year. Really hope Canada will step up in a big way to take the offense to the next level, so we will see. I like college football, but I only watch IU so I can't speak about coaches and who we should have tried to get. Just want to see a consistent offense that doesn't leave me scratching my head more than I should be.

Finally got a new phone to get back on here. Of course I’m disappointed that we lost, but it could have been way worse. Probably a good thing I didn’t watch it live though lol. A couple notes - We got back into the game with a terrible first half. Trust me, it’s extremely frustrating that this team keeps doing that, but they keep battling back. - Several misses bunnies and lose to the #2 team in there place by only 11. - Morgan didn’t let a really bad start to the game get him down. - IU REALLY lacks a 3rd and 4th option. This is where my biggest frustration lies with Smith, so much potential and athleticism to be very good, but just never goes for it. - Get healthy!!! Missing Rob and De’Ron really hurt. Let’s not forget about not having Hunter. Just assuming, but felt he would have played a significant role off the bench, and we could really use him at the 2/3 spot. - Lastly, if this team continues to grow on offense and starts quicker, this is a top 15 team. Getting healthy and getting a few more players to step up offensively will take this team to the next level. Shon Morris said it best on BTN LIVE, IU may have the highest ceiling of any team in the B1G if they could put it together offensively. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Indiana vs Butler Game Thread 12/15
JaybobHoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Wasn’t our best game, but any win is huge. Can’t say enough about Mr. Juwan Morgan, straight up stud! We really need to get contributors around him, but more than just Romeo on the offensive end. Some of the guys, especially Smith, need to quit only going through the motions. Smith could have been wide open so many times diving to the basket, but didn’t look for it. I was thrilled to see that 3 go down for him, because he is never looking for him mid-range plus shot. Hope that will give him much needed confidence, because we really need him to understand and utilize his crazy potential. Can’t believe Rob’s shot going down, but this kid always stays poised regardless the situation. Only wish going forward is to stop starting the games so slow. While we keep winning, just hate falling behind every time. Come out of the gate guns blazing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
I first want to start off thanking Crean for coming here when the program was a dumpster fire! Some coaches turned us down because of it, but he wanted to coach here. Started off well and things seemed to be going in the right direction, but things started going south with IU’s Sweet 16 loss to Syracuse. To me, that was the downward spiral of IU and Coach Crean. I felt Crean should have been fired the year before he was, but I wasn’t surprised it lasted another year. I’m not saying Archie is the perfect fit (no way of knowing for a couple more years), but he brings a lot of qualities that IU fans appreciate. I really hope he can put together a proven winner at IU with post-season success, get us truly back to being a current elite program. I think everything points to him doing that, so hopefully the trend will continue. Plus, who doesn’t love that he’s constantly heavily recruiting the state of Indiana, which is so important to its fan base! If the offense can get going, this team will have success in the post-season, and can’t wait to see what the future holds. I think IU is in much better hands with Coach Miller than Crean!
