  7. I’ve grown up playing basketball against my older brothers. Tyler and I played each other more times than I can remember. But this time we were wearing NBA jerseys.  It was literally my eighth professional game. We were playing the Cavaliers in Cleveland. Tyler is in his second season. We played similar minutes and guarded each other most of the time. It was weird. We’re both competitive and we played hard but it’s not like we were going to start a fight out there. For us, it was just Game 8 of 82. It’s just not often that the guy you’re guarding grew up in your house. At one point, Coach (Steve Clifford) called a timeout and drew up a play. Somewhere between the huddle break and the whistle I must have forgot and messed the whole thing up. Coach called another timeout just to yell at me. When we walked out to the floor again I asked Tyler, “Could you tell I messed that play up?” It was little things like that they made it fun. The referees had fun with it too. After one timeout, a ref asked if Tyler and I had went to dinner the night before. We did. Our parents were in town so we all went out. When the check came I put in a little something and Tyler paid the rest. When the ref asked during the game about who paid the bill, I told him we split it. “How are you going to let the rookie, your little brother come to your city and pay for half of the bill?” the ref yelled to Tyler. We all got a laugh out of that. Having my brothers—my oldest brother Luke played for the Phoenix Suns last season—has been great in helping with my transition into the NBA, especially mentally. It’s a long rookie year just because there’s so much to learn. They reminded me that you’re going to have some good games and some bad but there’s always another game right around the corner. The other adjustment is getting acclimated to a new life. I grew up in Washington, IN and played two years at Indiana before being drafted by Charlotte. Now I’m living alone in an apartment not far from Time Warner Cable Arena. Moving to a new city is like moving away to college again. Except this time I’m not surrounded by thousands of kids my age. It’s tougher to age and I’ve been traveling, so it’s tough to get out and meet know people and make new friends. Plus, you want to make the right friends. I’ve never really lived outside of Indiana. Everything is new. But my coaches have been great and my family have helped me stayed focused. It takes time when you’re moving to a new city. But I’m enjoying it.  as told to Christopher Hunt http://www.mensfitness.com/leisure/sports/nba-rookie-blog-cody-zeller Blog post on Cody in Men's Fitness.

  8. On the bright side, at least CKW hasn't come out and said that Mallory is being retained.  With as much buzz as there was about Mallory being fired at the end of the season, you would think Wilson would have to specifically announce one way or the other.

  10. The position coaches at MSU have to be good and they would still be in the BIG ten. I have a feeling one of them would take the job and be better than Mallory.

  11. Really hoping IU can land Dominique because aside from his immense talent, I think its crucial in building a program to keep in-state talent at the state university.

  13. I think I have good news. Circle Dec 19th 2013 on your calendar. I looked back at the LSU boards in 2008 and they looked a lot like ours now. Interestingly he was not fired officially in '08 because he moved on to the Lobos. I found an article though where Mallory admitted he did not really have a spot as DC with LSU if he did not move on. Fast forward to 2010 and the Lobos and again with a defense that is getting worse Mallory moves on this time to IU without being fired I believe. The announcements occurred on almost the same date (Dec 17th and Dec 18th) just 2 years apart. So this got me thinking...I noticed a lot of our '14 recruits have been turning in paperwork recently to enrol early and I wonder if the previous Mallory exits weren't strategically timed. Combine the early enrollment a with keeping kids committed and I am thinking/hoping we have not heard an announcemt because we (IU and Mallory) are both taking a look without giving fuel to others to poach our kids until a DC is named. Mallory is probably a like able guy and works favorably on his exit so I could see why he might travel on recruiting visits. Then on Dec 19th 2013 when we announce that Mallory has accepted some coaching job somewhere that is spun into a believable story and also announce the hiring of a new DC we do not lose ground with recruits. We should hear something in a week and a half Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  15. Well Charlie, maybe you need to back that up with some facts as to why Wilson should go. My reasons he should stay would be that he is a offensive genius, he attracts high quality assistants, and he is attracting a higher level of recruit then any coach since Bill Mallory. Another reason would be, until its obvious that CKW is not the man for the job, jumping back on that 3 year coaching carousel would be another step backwards. On the downside, CKW is a offensive coordinator that is learning to be a head coach. Whether that will be a successful transition, still a bit hard to tell, but I see no reason to jump in and change head coaches again. So if you have any solid reasons for his dismissal, throw them out there.

  16. I think Wilson needs time, but if he kept Mallory I'd probably fire him on the spot for industrial grade stupidity.
