A trio of Schwarbombs tonight -- two in the same inning. (Poor Bryce Harper. He hit for the cycle tonight, but is gonna get overlooked because of the Schwarmonster). -

A day late, but for Juneteenth? A quiet Saturday night and a killer album from Valerie June:

Them boys gonna be hitching up their kilts.
-
Their 3rd game is in Miami....in June. They all may roast to death.

It has been so cool to see all the these venues packed. We always enjoy watching the World Cup games but having them here and having so muc enthusiasm has been awesome. We are headed down to Miami this week to watch Brazil vs Scotland. I will be wearing yellow behind the goal, should be easy to spot right?

No sport can truly match the intensity of soccers highs and lows. No other sport with 20 minutes left can a single score feel like the clincher or the dagger. Does it always play out like that. Of course not but it often feels like that. A single score yet so many emotions. Even early scores can completely throw out the opponents gameplan. Football is a game of inches but soccer is a game of intense moments.

@Stuhoo That looks fantastic. Weve adopted Norway as a team we’re pulling for outside of the US. Im also partial to Germany

Me every time I watch this while pacing. -
They pretty much took over Boston and they were damn happy just to have made the field. Tons of incredibly nice people. Scots and Moroccans hugging it out before and after the game, and all hands rooting for team USA in the pubs pregame. It was epic.
-
I’ve seen clips online and I really wish a team had their base camp (or actual games) close to me. The people from all these different countries seem to be having a good time. Especially the Scottish. Did they leave you any beer?
-
Staff is saying he’ll be 100% for Türkiye. They’d be stone cold crazy to play him. i was in Foxboro for the Scotland/Morocco match yesterday. One of the best sporting events I’ve ever attended. Scottish are VERY fun to hang out with.

Missouri pushed hard, but in the end the good guys won. -
USA has looked very sharp so far. Hope Pulisic is able to rest against Turkiye and come back strong in the bracket round.
-
Incredible sporting event. Incredible game. And that’s an understatement. If you haven’t dove in; that’s a you problem. US looks fantastic. Ivory Coast just took a first half lead over Germany. Discuss!!

If I’m a student and I have to pay that fee, plus I’m getting charged for student tickets I am HOT. $500 is wild.
-
Kinda funny to think back in the mid-2000’s IU had a small $30 annual fee for athletics that was quite controversial. They dropped it and to make up for the lost revenue the north AH bleachers shifted from students to alumni. I agree there is something distasteful about students paying this. Not all of them care about sports, they’re supposed to be mostly paying for an education, and student debt is a concern. But, sports are a big part of the college experience and it’s not like each student’s tuition is perfectly spent on just what that student uses/wants. I don’t know the answer here. I’m not sure this is possible given disclosure laws, but the optics would be better to just increase tuition and funnel money to the AD on the back end… that happens a lot of places already. It’s tough for some ADs to stay competitive, especially outside the B1G and SEC. I think it’s usually the schools’ fault for several reasons. We shall see what congress does.

Touch the entire IU network have one NIL budget or is it broken down by campus? Could IU do this with all their campuses to funnel money to IU football
-
That’s about $15 million in revenue. My first blush reaction is that this really sucks, but I can’t put my finger on exactly how. Full price students pay for academic scholarship students to go to a school and this seems to be an exponential version of the same thing.
-
West Virginia University has (and is increasing) an “athletics advantage fee” that charges its student population $500/year to support their athletic department’s NIL. The fee is mandatory… At least their honest about why they’re doing this: Why has this fee increased since last year? “Continued success of WVU Athletics programs in today’s collegiate sports landscape depends on these additional funds. Strong athletics is now mission-critical in increasing enrollment, enhancing our institutional reputation and brand identity, and amplifying momentum on the national stage.” https://tuition.wvu.edu/mountaineer-athletics-advantage-fee?utm_source=cision-news-release&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=general&utm_id=strat-comm&utm_content=gen3348
