Feels like Illinois has had a good majority of their roster transfer out

But they had a good day of transfers in today,  Dumask from Southern Illinois and Justin Harmon from Utah Valley.  I’d call it a net gain from Melendez and Epps transferring out.  Still need to fill Mayers spot though.

Underwood is a good ooach and knows what it takes to win, but clearly his personality is polarizing, as he loses so many guys.  Illinois' strong NIL budget always keeps them a player in the market but Underwood's personality plays into all of this.

I was looking today to see if Terrence Shannon Jr. was leaving, and assumed he would. There’s no news yet. The Ringer has him as a borderline 1st rounder.

That’s higher than I’ve seen him.  NBA draft room projects undrafted.  NBA draft net has him projected 60th.  Talkathon puts him 45th.

I know age is a big projection factor so it’s unlikely he’s going to be a star. But on the other hand, I think he could play NBA wing minutes right now.

A. J. Storr transferring to Wisconsin.

Former Washington State C Jack Wilson is transferring to Minnesota.

Jack Wilson will be in his 5th year of D1 ball and has scored a career total of 84 points on 36% fg shooting. So not quite Tim Priller.

For real -- Wilson likely will be suiting up in football and basketball.   Played 25 games for the football team in 2021 and 2022 on their special teams (field goal and PAT).  Might be a way for them to steal and extra football scholarship without using one.  It's not like the basketball team was going to use all 13.

2024 four-star shooting guard Nick Janowski has committed to Nebraska.  #102 in On3 rankings.

Honestly, Hoiberg has been doing well this offseason.  Pulled in a couple of decent transfers yesterday in Rienk Mast and Brice Williams.  Williams was a player IU had contacted (don't know how serious they were about getting him, but he's a big guard who can hit the three).

That is not how it works. If a player plays football they will counted as a football scholarship or must have no athletic scholarship.

Rules for multi-sport athletes[edit]

The NCAA also has rules specifying the sport in which multi-sport athletes are to be counted, with the basic rules being:[69]

  • Anyone who participates in football is counted in that sport, even if he does not receive financial aid from the football program. An exception exists for players at non-scholarship FCS programs who receive aid in another sport.[70]
  • Participants in basketball are counted in that sport, unless they also play football.
  • Participants in men's ice hockey are counted in that sport, unless they also play football or basketball.
  • Participants in both men's swimming and diving and men's water polo are counted in swimming and diving, unless they count in football or basketball.
  • Participants in women's (indoor) volleyball are counted in that sport unless they also play basketball.
  • All other multi-sport athletes are counted in whichever sport the school chooses.

Interesting.  I don’t see Wilson getting any kind of real time on the basketball court.  Wouldn’t be surprised if they wait the fall until a football scholly is open and have him play football.  He doesn’t add anything to the bball team

Heard this was coming from some UM folks. No idea what’s up but two threads I imagine may be intertwined here: 1. Ongoing rumors about Howard taking an NBA job as soon as next summer and 2. UConn’s close to home….

According to Twitter, take it for what its worth, they are saying this is related to admissions.
