Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Dawson Wins Weekly B1G Honors With Stellar Weekend Performance The Big Ten Conference announced their weekly Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday morning. After a dominate performance in the shot put this past weekend by Indiana Track & Field's own Khayla Dawson, she was awarded Women's Big Ten Track & Field Athlete of the Week. Under the sunny blue skies in Bloomington this past Saturday, Dawson heaved a put of 18.91m (62' 0.5") to smash the all-time school record, facility record and Big Ten record. The winning mark ranks No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 6 in the world so far this year. It also is among the NCAA ranks, checking in at No. 6 on their all-time shot put list. The Charlotte, N.C. native also competed in the discus this past weekend where she earned a new personal best with a heave of 54.25m (178' 0"). The mark was good for third place. Dawson and the Hoosiers will return to action May 14-16 where they will compete at the 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Illinois is set to host the meet in Champaign, Ill. at their newly built Demirjian Park. ALASKA HOOSIER and HoosierAloha 2 Quote
