You're allowed one "wtf loss" per year in college basketball if you're trying to compete for a 1 seed.

As long as we don't go dropping games at Rutgers or at home to Penn State, I can live with the IPFW loss.

It's not going to hurt us that much.

Yep, minimizing multiple +100 rpi loses is a key to a higher seed. Iu proved that last year. They had the wins last year to warrant a 3 or 4 seed however the losses to penn state(121), unlv(148), and wake(154) were the reason they won the big 10 regular season and ended up with a 5 seed

The B1G is struggling overall. Where are the marquee wins? The bad losses? O$U losing to FAU, Iowa losing to everyone, MSU not getting let OOC wins, etc. I can see the committee punishing the top teams again.

The B1G had terrible OOC loses last year as well. Marquee wins would be @purdue, @wisky, wisky, Purdue, Michigan st. It's still early but 13 of 14 B1G teams are in the Ken Pom top 100( 1 guess which school isn't)

Guess would be Rutger.

I was speaking more to the marquee wins in the OOC schedule for the B1G. IU has the wins but the others just aren't there.

Wins
IU - KU, UNC
Wiscy - Syracuse
pu - ASU, possible ND
MSU - Wichita St
Michigan - Marquette, SMU, Texas
Maryland - OK St., G'town
O$U - Providence

That's not a lot of good wins for the entire conference. There are a few more opportunities out there but not a lot. I'm guessing the B1G will be the 4th or 5th rated conference begins the ACC, Big East, PAC12, and maybe Big 12.

yeah not a lot there in the non conference I was just pointing out iu would have plenty of marquee wins chances in the B1G regardless of it having a bad OOC. Committee judges each team individually on their team sheets they won't penalize iu because other B1G teams couldn't win in the OOC or at least that has what the committee chair has said in the past

Right, but it would be easier to have good to great wins in conference if the B1G won more marquee OOC wins.  As it stands there are only 2, maybe 3, teams and 4-5 opportunities for great wins in conference play.  Good wins against possible tourney teams would be limited as well with @Maryland, @O$U, and Michigan (x2).  The B1G, as a whole, is down.  The conference will provide plenty of opportunities for top 100 wins but not the marquee wins that other conference teams will have.

And that would effect the B1G teams that don't already have a couple of big wins more than it would iu. As of now wisky is Ken Pom (8)and we would play them 2 (Ken Pom loves him some wisky), Purdue (12) we play them 2 times, Michigan(26) and we play them 2 times. Now these numbers will change overtime and the committee will use rpi( rpi can't be trusted this early it needs time for the numbers to work themselves out). Iu just needs to avoid multiple +100 L's and in my opinion if they win they games they are supposed to at home in the B1G they will get a good seed

As of now, any loss to the say, bottom three in the conference will oust us from a 1 seed. Unless extenuating circumstances happen.

If we can just avoid anymore bad losses we will easily be a 3 seed.  And at this point thats all I really want.  No more of this running into a #1 seed in the sweet sixteen.

If you look at the B1G as a stand-alone, the end-of-season league RPI concern is understandable.  The ACC and Big East look fairly deep, but the B1G could compete with the Big East and they should be better than the SEC.  Depending on the results against Butler and Pitinoville, if IU winds up with only 2 or 3 losses in conference to contending teams, I don't see why they couldn't at least get a 2 or 3 seed.

This pretty much means that B1G teams will give us hell every night because they'll know we're their best chance at a marquee win that will boost their tournament hopes or seeding position.

Huge target on our backs this year when conference play opens up.

About what I though, if the B1G wins half of those games we're still talking about the 4th or 5th best conference.  Having MSU with all the injuries and not any marquee wins really hurts the perception of the conference.

Yeah gonna be another thing holding us back come seeding. That's why we can't afford anymore bad losses.  I don't want to be a 4 or 5 seed again.

Agreed. This team has some growing to do but I think they have some serious potential to be something special. No more crazy losses.

Nebraska has a chance to help its rpi tonight, they play host to Creighton. Its highly unlikely for Big Red to win this one.

Creighton has looked terrific so far but this is their first road game.  They've played 5 at home and 3 neutral.  The only good team they have played so far is Wisconsin (at home).  @Uspshoosier is right when it comes to rivalry games with the juices flowing in front of the home fans and needing a statement win.
