My Beautiful Dark Twisted (American Football) Fantasy

I thought this might lead to a nice, non-Crean discussion. Hopefully it will at least be good toilet reading.

The year is 2034. The country? THE United States of America. Its sport? Still football.

Some said football would eventually meet its end. CTE was becoming an epidemic. 76 of 79 deceased NFL players had at least traces of the degenerative disease. But things have changed now. The game was taught correctly at the youth level, equipment evolved, and safety issues (for long term health) were squashed. Football is now flourishing a short 20 years after many said it would fail. The United States alone has seven pro leagues. Mexico has two and Canada four. All leagues are fairly competitive and each has their fair share of star players. The worldwide following has boomed. The Ginger Hammer's wish was granted by making the sport global (but only following his "resignation" in 2016 after an "infidelity" "incident"). The number of fans has reached, and surpassed billions across the globe. English soccer club Arsenal now shares a stadium with the London Lobsters, of the startup Lipton Iced Tea Football League in the Motherland. Spanish power FC Barcelona was kicked out of its stadium by the Barcelona Bumblebees out of another startup league, the Tostitos Mild Chunky Salsa Liga de Futbol Americano.

Back home, things look even more different. Sure, North American teams are still competing in their respective leagues, but something amazing has happened. As the number of leagues and teams boomed, interleague competition became a reality, and someone, somewhere turned their head across the pond to the east. Thus, the idea was born. Top teams from: the best five American leagues, the premiere Mexican league (Liga Velveeta Bean Dip de Futbol), and the top two Canadian leagues (Ligue Ore Ida French Fries and the Cabela's Bear Repellent League) would all play in one massive tournament. The North American League of Legends (sponsored by McVeganDonalds). Four months. 32 of the best football teams in the world. 1 ultimate winner. Since the collapse of ESPN...well, not necessarily a collapse. ESPN started falling apart in the early 2020's, and by 2025 was strictly a plastic cooking utensil shopping network. Anyways, since the fall of ESPN's sports programming, many networks tried and failed to cover this monstrous event until one, unlikely source stepped in with the best sports coverage the world has seen. MTV Sports currently covers 35 sports in 59 countries (including Texas...more on them in a minute, or, on second thought, maybe not) and is the lone network to carry the NALL. As football continues to grow and captivate the world, who knows what may happen. The Western Hemisphere League of Legends? The Earth League of Legends? Milky Way? It could end a lot of ways, but one thing is for certain...football is here to stay.



Well, that concludes the single longest random thought of my life. If you didn't feel like going through all of that (and I don't blame you if so), I basically made a future world where American Football ends up with a bunch of leagues that end up playing in their own version of the UEFA Champions League currently seen in European Soccer, and on a smaller scale here in America. I dunno man, I like your ideas; but the NFL is pretty tough nut to crack into...

they feel pretty highly of themselves, the way an all men's golf course does...absolutely no outsiders welcome!

 

but...who knows, 20 years is a long time and maybe that exclusive club mentality will become a thing of the past.

I'm not sure about football numbers anywhere else but in my home town numbers are dwindling and fast. There are usually 3 youth teams with prolly 20-30 kids apiece and this year those numbers are down to about 13 kids a team. Parents just aren't letting their kids play anymore here and it's because of the concussion issues.

I loved it, but the possibility of there being so many North American leagues that could even possibly compete with the NFL is highly unlikely. As of now, and probably in 20 years, the NFL is and forever will be far above every other (conceivable) league.

But anyway... FIRE CREAN :)
