what % of possessions will result in turnovers in 2014-2015?

Recommended Posts

through 32 games last year we ended up with a turnover rate of 21.9%

does anyone truly believe we go significantly lower than that this year? With so many guards in the mix and Crean only knowing one way to coach (GO GO GO GO GO), I can't imagine our turnover rate will be anything to write home about after seeing such abysmal ball protection last year

I honestly anticipate more turnovers this season so I'll peg the figure at 23.5% of possessions resulting in turnovers. The abundance of sub-200 RPI opponents on the out of conference schedule will allow us to develop bad habits that manifest themselves throughout the entirety of the B1G slate

we can get to the NCAA Tournament if we significantly lower the turnover rate. It is mission critical though

I wont guess the percent of turnovers its over my head but I believe the troy yogi and stan will b a lot better with the ball this year but the freshman and guys like hanner who didnt see a lot of time will b ? I agree the key to success will b cutting turnovers down dramatically but thats what we needed last year and we never really did that consistantly and frankly I didnt feel crean did the proper things to drop the percent but hopefully it will happen this year!

Just based on the increase in experience our starting 5 will have I say just under 20%. Yogi shouldn't need to force as many plays resulting in TO's. Obviously I'm not expecting a whole lot though since we presumably could be starting two sophomores and a freshman. Hopefully Nicky Z can be a reliable ball handler if one of our guards is struggling with TO's. A little bench time is always a great teaching tool.

I anticipate the TO% staying about the same this year. But I think we will be able to offset it a little better because we will be better offensively. That doesn't excuse the TO problem, but maybe gives a brighter view on it.

The turnovers have been about the same over Crean's tenure from what I remember. The difference is, we were bad all around last year so it was amplified.

Yeah someone's posted them here a while back. I'll let them find the thread and post them in here. I'm pretty sure TO's have been consistently high since he's been here, but I could be wrong. If it gets fixed, this team will be scary.

I'll predict 19.9 %----They will decrease some because we frankly have better and more ball handlers and more scoring options so we will not have to force as much!  They will stay pretty high because we are still young and we will run-run-run!  It's ok if turnovers are a little high if we are getting more offensive possessions due to our pace!

Crean's best teams turned it over at a high clip. That said our two best players will keep it lower than 20% this year. I mean we are talking 1 or 2 turnovers per game to lower it under 20. Yogi as a junior will be better than yogi as a soph. Blackmon is looking to score. Instead of looking to pass and turn it over he is looking to shoot. Those two things will easily keep it under 20.

This! We have shooters this season who want to shoot the ball. Hollowell was scared to shoot and so was Troy last season, but Troy has developed and we'll see that confidence. I'm not saying way lower than 20% but right around that.

  I agree Hovadipo.

I think the turnover rate could stay about the same due to the frenetic pace.

Shouldn't hurt us as much thru empty possessions, like last years squad had so many of.

Yogi has many more options this year with the additions and I would like to think Troy and Stan will make that Soph leap in maturity. There shouldn't be so many end of clock chucks as last year.If there is that's on you know who!

Lets just hope Hanner has been working the medicine ball like a madman.

Didn't Hollowell have a pretty bad turnover percentage? His usage rate wasn't overly high, but him being gone certainly isn't going to hurt this team with controlling the ball. I do think you're overstating what the turnover issue will be this next year, turning the ball over 23.5% would be an utter disaster. I'm anticipating it being slightly lower this next year, if anything at worst I'd anticipate it being the same. I don't see how it gets worse, or that much worse, given that everyone on the roster who should have high usage rates are returning players outside of JBJ. I know people really like Rojo, so do I, but I'll be shocked if he is top 5 on the team in usage rate. The guys I'm most concerned about are Stan Rob and Troy, they both need to make big strides in terms of taking care of the ball

I really hope HMP developed. He could be such a good asset to this team, even last season when he was in he showed development and was constantly trying to make plays. If him and Devin can bang around in the post we will be ok. And having a young Jeremiah April on the bench doesn't hurt either.

No, just trying to be positive. Yeah Noah played better then HMP last season but when Hanner was in he was trying to make plays. He was always going up for rebounds, he just got into a lot of foul trouble. Let's hope he learned from that. Also I agree rebelhoosier, that put back dunk was solid!
