When Will Bob Knight/IU Patch Things Up

Recommended Posts

Could someone link the open Guyton letter to this site!

Sorry for the raw emotion---but Knight was Coach during my IU years.  I was in The Hall when we were losing and he threw the chair during our Season On The Brink and I was there when we were winning and celebrated the National Championship in The Hall with the team and thousands from Hoosier Nation!  I did not agree with everything he did, but Coach Knight was the greatest basketball coach I have ever seen and his departure left a big hole in the IU Family.

Hope AJ can patch it up!

So jealous you were actually there when we won. I thought for sure I was going to get to be a part of the biggest block party in history down on Kirkwood in 2013.

I admit to tearing up a little over AJ's letter. I was around for the entire Knight era at IU. The man had some major flaws, no doubt, but he was the greatest college BB coach I have ever seen. Too bad younger IU fans didn't get to experience the thrill of watching those Knight teams. They were amazing. It would mean a lot to this old fan for Coach to come back to IU just once more. I hope it happens in my lifetime.

Wow. Just read it, and that was moving even as an IU fan that doesn't fully remember those days. I have a hard time believing he won't accept the invite, honestly. But if he denies it, maybe he really is just a bitter old man.

Good posts and like the petition idea!  Knight always said he loved the IU fans.

I say it like this:  "IU basketball is bigger than Knight--- but Knight helped make IU basketball as big as it is"!

The two are great on their own--- but together they are legendary!

Sure hope Guyton gets it done!

Knight still loves the fans...he makes trips to Indiana all the time...speaking engagements or book signings...

It's the University that he has a beef with...

I hope AJ's open letter makes him rethink some things...hell...it's making me rethink some things of my own it was so damn inspirational...

What's crazy, is that without ever even seeing him, the students still cheered the loudest for him during the pregame video every time when I was there.

The sooner we patch things up the better!

It does seem like the basketball program is under the curse of Bob Knight and after yesterday's football fiasco I would add that the football program is under the curse of Bill Mallory.

I think we need to get Bob and Bill in the same room with the IU administration and say boys what will it take to work this out!

Whatever it is---let's GETTER DONE!

If I were Coach Knight this would feel like an open wound that wouldnt heal. Not one that was here in those dark days is here now and the only peaple hurt by this are the loyal fans ,Me included, former players, and Coach Knight himself.I've held grudges forever and It just about killed me with the energy it took. It's not worth it.

Life is short and time is ticking away on this matter.Hope AJ's letter finds it's mark.

Kind of preachy ,I know. Sorry!

Bob. Ain't. Comin'. Back.

Let. It. Go.

So I hereby issue The De-Bobification Emancipation Proclamation:

Whereas, on the fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen, a proclamation was issued by the one known as Recycled Hoosier, an Alumnus (BS Ed 1977, MS Ed 1982) of the Bloomington Campus of The Great Indiana University, containing, among other things, the following, to wit:

"That on the Third Day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen, also known as the first day of Men’s Basketball Practice, and in the Hoosier Spirit of Light and Truth, all persons still held as slaves to the notion that Coach Bob Knight will someday return to the The Assembly Hall, The Cook Hall, The Bloomington Campus, or any part of therof, those people shall then, thenceforward, and forever be declared free; and the entire Hoosier Faithful of every part of The Great Indiana University, and collectively Hoosier Athletics, including all major and minor sports thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts, real or imagined, in person or on social media, including tweets, text messages, blogs, fan sites, and/or Facebook postings, to repress such persons, or any of them individually, in any efforts they may make to further their actual freedom from any hope, prayer, belief, hallucination, or nightmare that Coach Bob Knight will ever return.

And upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, and fully warranted by the Policy of *Glass-nost, upon necessity, I invoke the considerate judgment of Fankind, and the gracious favor of Almighty God."

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of The Five Banners to be affixed.

Done at the virtual Btownbanners.com of Bloomington Indiana, on this fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen:

To Declare that the third day of October, two thousand fourteen shall Henceforth and Forever be known as Independence Day  From The Spirits and The Demons of The Past for the Hoosier Faithful, who shall now be known as The Emancipated Fans of The Great Indiana University Men’s Basketball Team.

*Glass-nost - Indiana University Athletic Director Fred Glass’ policy permitting open discussion of athletics issues and freer dissemination of news and information.

It had been a privilege watching a Knight coach over my lifetime. I wasn't around during the Knight days until the very end because I was just old enough to understand but I enjoyed watching him coach at Texas Tech even though that man belonged in Bloomington. Just as a fan of basketball I would love to see BK come back and help bring Indiana basketball back to relevancy. 2012-2013 was a damn fun year. If and when he ever comes back it will provide peace for both parties and a healthy relationship could be restored. I would pay a lot of money to see that man back in Assembly Hall.
