I'm surprised we haven't seen as many backloaded deals this summer, though with the CBA you can only backload them so much. There has been a good amount of short term deals that are clearly structured around this two year time frame.
That's how Luol Dengs contract was done and rumor is that's how they're trying to do Wades and Haslems too.

I bet they'll go short term, BIG money.

More news on Lance. Seems like Charlotte wasn't ever really looking that seriously at Lance. Those were more of smoke screens than anything else. With Dallas out of the running along with a few other teams I can't think of who is left to give him a better offer than we did. Might be forced to take our contract.

And with what we offered him we'll have to cut 1 million in salary to get under the hard tax, which is a must. And cut 5 million to get under the tax threshold. Again have until the end of the 2014-2015 regular season to do so

I say send Waiters, Bennett, and 2 #1's
I think Minnesota has already shot that offer down.

I'm pretty sure they have, and I don't blame them.
Why wouldn't Cleveland just wait a year when Love becomes a free agent? Just curious.
The initial logic I can think of is that they believe they can get him to buy into being part of a winning team this year, and then he may take a pay cut if necessary next year. If they try to get him in free agency next year, money may become an issue.

I'd take just about any deals involving Wiggins. I don't really buy the Love hype, and think Wiggins is going to be an absolute stud in the NBA. Wiggins could put up some huge numbers playing with Rubio.

This Love trade is kind of why people have issues with Lebron. In his message to SI, he said he knew the Cavs weren't a title contender right away, but he was in it for the long haul and willing to work hard. Now that he's in Cleveland, he's doing the same thing he did in Miami: trying to assemble another "super team" to win right away.

Yup.  You can call me cynical if you want, but I seriously doubt Lebron would have "gone home" if Cleveland wasn't in a place to be able to make moves to win now.  If they weren't in that position, there is no way he would have ended up there.  The whole "going home" thing was a nice p.r. move to try to keep him looking like a front runner always looking to jump to a winning-ready team with other top guys.

A few days late with this…but Kevin Love has withdrawn from Team USA and won't be playing in the World Championships this fall.

Apparently getting their stupid super-team assembled is more important to these guys than representing their country at an international event.

Lebron's marketability which was already high, is now at astronomical levels for "going home". If he wins a championship there regardless of who he brigs in to the team, he'll be rolling in endorsements. Great PR move. Cleveland also had to have given him a. Road map of what they will do to make the team contenders.
