This would be the largest Belmont field ever beaten by a Triple Crown winner. The 11 previous Triple Crown champions never faced more than seven rivals in the 1½-mile Belmont, the longest of the three races in the series.

 

Since Affirmed became the last Triple Crown winner in 1978, three Belmont fields with the same history on the line also drew 11 horses in 1981, 1988 and 2002.

If he has that much opposition and wins, there can be no excuses that he's the best horse in the past three generations.

Boo! Looked like he had good position throughout the race, but nothing left in the tank. I do agree with the owner. The others are cowards that don't race in the other two legs. #flawedsystem.
