Special edition B1G Tourney uniforms

Recommended Posts

I don't see why us having outdated uniforms is such a big deal to some fans, I guess the "next shiny thing" syndrome applies to more than just recruits. Those uniforms are a part of Indiana basketball now, just like the candy stripes and the banners. The Yankees don't change their pinstripes and Alabama doesn't change their helmets, why does IU need to change their uniforms? Those outdated uniforms didn't keep us from getting Zeller or Oladipo or Sheehey or Yogi or Vonleh or Blackmon or...

Recruiting is the life blood of a program and the results say our uniforms aren't hurting us, and new uniforms won't make the players play better so it'd just be change for the sake of change. An alternate from time to time, sure, but a permanent change isn't necessary and really has no benefit.

I think this argument can be debated in circles forever! To my original point about a signature look, of course we have one. But so do UNC & Duke, and they're able to make minor tweeks here and there to keep it updated without wholesale changes. That's what I would like to see - modern neckline, cut of the uniform, etc.

I agree about an alternate from time to time, which is what I think this set is - just for the BTT thiss year. I would love to see the cream version in Assembly Hall for one game next year though, just one. And an alternate with Script Indiana. And I'll stop it there.

When the Fab Five brought the long trunks we did not resist and had longer trunks the next year. [attachment=523:ImageUploadedByBtownBanners1394155801.245669.jpg]

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I'm not saying uniforms affect recruits. I didn't say it affects winning. The "next shiny thing" syndrome comment is uncalled for. You are making twice as much of a deal as anyone that says they like the jerseys. Maybe the "I'm old and boring as hell" syndrome applies to people under the age of 70 as well.

That change won't put a new banner in the rafters. The jersey on your back or the shoes on your feet don't make you play better. They don't win games.

That change also won't PREVENT a new banner in the rafters. You do realize that the old traditional uniforms don't win us games right? It's the kids that wear them?

See that top? Barely changed.

Next step is names on the back. Quote me on this.

This is the one thing that absolutely can't and shouldn't happen. I guess I can deal with "updated" unis as long as the front says Indiana and the back says nothing. As long as they are covered with the candystripes when they come out of the locker, of course!

I think my issue is that I see that as the last thing linking everything all together. I'm afraid that if the unis change IU basketball will forever change. It seems like every passing year without a banner has a little piece of our heralded tradition die. It's kind of sad and scary at the same time.

This is first. Permanent change is next. Names are coming. Come back here in a few years and dig up this thread.

The unis aren't changing, though. We are wearing these for the B1G tournament, and I assume for the NIT. Then it's back to the uniforms that we all know and love.

I think I saw that we're not even wearing them for the NIT, of NCAAT (allowing for a miracle of course).

I like our uniforms and like no names and like candi striped warm ups and guess what, I am not being recruited.

Keep the unis if you can but if you have to change I am not going to throw a fit.

We changed our uniforms before. Trunks got longer and tops got tighter.

I think the right coach can sell what we have to most kids but if that is not the case or an if an obstacle then respectfully do what other top programs are doing.

A lot of people did not like the "thug" look the baggy shorts suggested and yet we changed our shorts because it really was not a big deal.

Which makes this over-reaction (let's call it what it is) even crazier.

I actually like this approach...
mix it up...
the football team has adopted several helmet designs...and I love them all..because the heads they are
protecting are all IU students...

honestly...I wouldn't even care if IU basketball decided to put the last name of the player on the
uniform...who cares...

the times are a changin...get with it, or get hit with it...

I definitely love the simplicity and tradition of our current uniforms. I'm not opposed to an alternate every once in a while though. I don't necessarily hate these uniforms, but I don't like the weird array of dots on the tops of the shirts and bottoms of the shorts. If we're going to have an alternate it should incorporate something more true to the program like stripes instead of dots. I do like the idea of having cream jerseys because it is the -cream and crimson-.

My main problem with these alternate jerseys is that it is just a corporate ploy to make $$$ and makes us look just like all the other schools wearing these jerseys.

I am okay with an alternate, but don't like the idea of doing it just because all the other Adidas schools are doing it.

But I think we can all be thankful that IU didn't agree to wear these:

Not a big deal to me. I've seen changes here at Indiana State, and they've been OK. The Irish football team has made small changes over the years, and save for "special" occasions the names on the back, not much has changed. I would love to never see names on the back, but small tweaks/changes never hurt anyone.

Jerseys with sleeves. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to put the bottle away.

Opens the market to fans that will buy them should they take over. That's the only reason. As for IU's jerseys, I'm sure a lot of people will buy the shorts in particular.

Hey, as long as it says Hoosiers, Indiana or IU on the front of it, with no names on the back, I'm fine. I just want he kids to think of themselves as "A Hoosier" rather than "Insert Name Here."
